Default Seat Leon Cupra R - Anyone got one? **UPDATE - OPINIONS ON A CAR**

Looking to change my car as only live 2 miles from work now so don't need boring diseaseal and can cycle in. Want something with a bit of go, but despite having 5 years protected NCB getting quoted £1100 for scoobs and £1500 for Evo's, and refuse to pay it!

Seat is coming in at £700 insurance and looks ok - the sort of thing you wouldn't be embarrased turning up places but can still have some fun, and less likely to get jacked driving round brum .

Ones like these:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1422097.htm

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1393265.htm

Anyone got/had one? Any common faults to look out for? Provided stick to remap, filter and exhaust should be pretty reliable right?

I haven't but a mate had one. Bigger turbo, intercooler, re-map exhaust etc. decent power. And fook me did it go! Ate front tyres though if he wasn't careful. I think they look pretty nice aswell.

My mate has had one for a few years now and its a very nice car. He's spent a lot of money on IHI turbo conversion but its running over 300hp and fook me its goes. Still on stock internals as well.

I loved mine to be fair! i think it was an ex-press demo car..had sat-nav and recaros etc.

The usually problems with the VAG engine is coil packs....if you do have problems dont waste money on pattern parts, just go direct to Seat/VW (the pattern ones quite often make the engine management light come on!)

Front end takes a fair bit of abuse so they can be heavy on bushes and mounts.

They're really good cars IMO, build quality isnt quite as good as a golf, but they are well equipped and drive/handle really nicely.

Nice car for the money now, with a basic stage one map you are looking at around 270bhp for around £300 without an aftermarket exhaust or airfilter the only thing recommended is an aftermarket recirc dv something like a Forge 007p

Electrical faults are commong.

Maf sensor, coil packs and similar.

Be wary of any water in the car or condensation - they leak like a sieve.. do a search on the Seat Forum.

Other than that I enjoyed mine - I had the Cupra not the Cupra R - but its the same car minus a few knobs and dials.

i think they are the same mate, Ive had a few golfs and they drive basically the same too.

I dont drive it very often I just buy quick cars and sell them on when i get bored however in my opinion these are quite nice cars. I would never keep one for years but i would be happy if i had it over the summer.

Ive driven a lot worse, the yellows a bit much though lol.

The Cupra R is a very different car from the normal Cupra. The Cupra R has over the normal Cupra:

Bigger K04 turbo
Twin intercoolers rather than a single
Much bigger front discs
Brembo front calipers
Different interior with recaro front seats
About 1000 other small changes that ive forgotten about

I've owned my Cupra R now for almost 4 years. Its now on 80k, I've done numerous trackdays and a ring trip and it has never broken down. Mine has been modified including a remap to 277bhp and running koni dampers with eibach springs and arbs. Note that standard unmodified its not particular fast or handles particularly well. Imo it definately needs the remap to free up 40-50 horses and the suspension and arbs needs replaced for half-decent handling.

The Brembos must be shit hot because the brakes on the normal Cupra T are excellent.

Default UPDATE - Opinions on this car

Still thinking about these!

What does anyone think of this car:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1444491.htm

Only 7 miles from me, so really tempted to go and have a look this afternoon. Seems expensive for an 02 car even if it is low mileage.

We have the later version (58 plate) Leon Cupra K1, lovely car to drive, very refined, very good at motorway speeds too. My only issue with it is the horrific understeer I get in the wet but I'll put that down to it's weight.

They're not bad cars tbh. I was senior technician at a Seat dealer for a few years and didn't have many major issues with them.

The common things I found were,

Clutch pedals break,
Window regulators break,
The dash can rattle quite bad, usually due the clips that secure the top part of the dash by the screen,
washer pipes come apart,
coolant temp sensors,
as already mentioned, coils can fail,
pollen filters can leak water if the trim isn't fitted right,
the window regulator to door seals can fail letting water in,
boot release handle prone to failing,

There's a few other little niggles but generally they're sound cars, quick when they're remapped too!!

If you need front pads, don't buy them from a dealer, they were fookin expensive when I worked for them!!!

Ive had one for 9 months and its been faultless. standard at the moment but gonna get it re-maped should see 260 quite easily. Good car in my opinion better than the golf and handles better than the s3. imo

Clutch pedal - CHECK
Window regulator rubber - CHECK
Boot release handle failed -CHECK

Also air con screen breaks a lot and expensive new/sh to buy.

Water pumps also fail around 60k... made out of monkey plastic.
