Default Focus fuel gauge incorrect?

I have an 03 reg ST170 and ive just gone to it and it fired up but stopped straight away. The fuel gauge is reading about 1/8th of a tank. When I fill the tank to the brim the needle dosnt move for about 80 miles or so.

My question is how accurate are the forcus gauges? Im wondering if it could in fact be out of fuel? On the other hand, it was fine when I drove it to work?

Im going to put a gallon of fuel in it in the morning and see what happens.

Im getting fed up with this car now, its been nothing but trouble. We have only had it 1 calender month and only had it on the road about 10 days!

Any input greatfully recieved.

From full tank, it's correct that it doesn't move until about 60 to 80 miles (depending on how hard you drive) - it's the same on mine.

I went and put a gallon of fuel in it and it fired after a littler turning over. 1/8 of a tank must actually be empty.

The Mk1 Focus has a known problem with the sender unit, my 03 FRS had mine replaced under warranty as it wouldn't show up when you filled up or sometimes went full scale.
