Default Sticking Handbrake in Cold Weather

As title suggests the handbrake sticks on the car in cold weather, anything below 0 really, the handbrake will release but the cable seems to continue to stick, the only thing that seems to cure it is after driving it for abit, obviously I don't want to damage it, so is there anything I can do to protect it from the cold bar a heater...

The car is a Seat Cupra K1.

Cheers
Tim

This was a problem on the Mk1 Puntos, the fix for that was to smear the cables with vaseline as they froze up due to moisture where they were exposed from the outer sheath.

Used to be a right pain in the arse, driving round in the snow and ice with the hand brake on, not the best idea!

Cheers for the above, I shall ensure it's left in gear, it's only ever left on level ground anyway.

Yeah I never ever used the handbrake when parking mine as I could never be arsed getting my hands dirty smearing vaseline on stuff.

I keep the vaseline smearing for my nights out with Benni
