Default 2006 Mitsubishi L200 2.5D - What to look for when buying?

Been asked to go look at one with a friend at the weekend - seems a fair bit cheaper than most of its age.

It's done 60,000 miles and the seller says its had it's 'big' service at 50,000.

Obviously all the usual bits and bobs will get checked and HPi will be done etc.

Just keen to know if there are any particular 'known faults' on these?

Thankyouplease

Will, give Graceland a ring, he's on his second one now, might be able to give you a few pointers.

L200's suffer badly with parking dents.

Cambelt needs changing every 48k. MUST change it, especially if used on short journeys.

Oil is 0W30. Best place to get it is your local VW dealer. 7.5 litres @ fill. Keep a litre behind the back seat by the jack.

Air filters I find best to use o.e. ones. Pattern ones do not fit the cylinder properly from my experience.

Gearboxes can get "warm" if used hard for a while. If you can feel the heat in the transmission tunnel, it is too hot. Have seen a few that get used for motorway usage blow gearbox oil out the vent. I find that draining it all and putting Dexron III autobox oil in works best and seems to stop them getting hot. Not a recommendation from Mitsi, but I find it works. Put some in a 2003 model and it did another 100k in 2 years with only cursory oil top-ups compared to using about 1/2 litre every 10k with original oil in.

If it is a later one with the display on the dash for 4WD/2WD, etc.. (4 green boxes representing wheels), make sure they all work. Have seen a couple in work where people have left them in 4WD mode and one of the lights for a front wheel does not work. Put them in the air, and you have almost RWD only. Easy way to find out is to have it standing, jack the front up in the middle and see how much the wheels spin as they leave the floor (engine off). If hardly any, it should be okay, if loads, chances are the transfer box is "wound up". That is something a Mitsi tech showed me with my old one.

Probably a lot of other things, but that is all I can think of ATM.
