I can't believe this, I feel like someone has just switched the want for a fag off.. I just come on here, looked at what i've posted this week and thought to myself, bloody hell, i forgot that I smoked all day. haven't needed one at all.. this is so easy to give up. all you have to do is decide in your mind that your ready. an you can do it..

Spot on, that's what i was saying before had, there's so much emphasis on the physical aspect and it's 99% bollocks. Just remember tho, there's no such thing as 1 cigarette.

I have currently gone 12 days without smoking and am finding you have good days and bad days.

Sometimes i don't even think about it but others i really struggle.

As yourself have just stopped with no substitute however i have a box in the glovebox of the car as last times i tried to stop it was not having any that annoyed me the most, bit strange i know but works for me.

My advice as an ex smoker... I once gave up for a full year but regressed due to working in an office where everyone smoked I also tried the nicotine gum every day for 18 months, which caused me MUCH embarrasment as it's SERIOUSLY laxative, but no joy. Then I went on the nicotine patch and from day one it was clear this was the right way to do it (for me), within days my body rejected the idea of smoking - smoking is so awful for the body that the moment my mind/body realised it could get the nicotine it needed from another source, it rejected the filthy idea of smoking.

Being on the patch 24/7 was the way that worked for me. I changed my patch when I woke up in the morning. Critically important was the fact the patch I used was a 24hour one, because it means you don't crave one when you wake up in the morning. I found you need to press the patch on HARD and keep pressing for 30 seconds to give a good bond that would transfer the nicotine efficiently.

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread but I just thought I'd pass on my experience, good luck, and you can look forward to BEER tasting better and also food tasting better. And an extra £20 or £30 a week in your pocket is also nice


Edit: Oh and I forgot to say the obvious, that you cut down on the strength of patch to wean yourself off it. At the beginning of the 5th week of patch wearing, I went to buy the set of "medium" patches, but they were out of stock, so I just cut my remaining "strong" patches in half, so was on half-strength for maybe 3 or 4 days when I realised that I was NEVER going to smoke cigs again and didn't want to prolong things, so at 4 and a half weeks I was clear of the filthy cigs.

Cant believe i've done this, I got a right smack in the face by the 'i've got no fags' fist earlier an went out an bought some.. pulled over on the side of the road to light it, like ya do when ya trying to pack up, sit there like a muppet thinkin 'do I do this or not'.. but I did light it, drove off took a ferkin great drag an coughed an done a 5 finger spread of sick all over the misses's dashboard in her pug... So fuck that, i'm not letting one slip up ruin the fact that i've not smoked nothing in nearly 4/half days except that drag.. so i'm feeling a bit down, and my coat smells of sick.. and i've now had to clean bits of sick out of the heater vents on her car.. all that sh*te just cus I wanted a fag. never again

Don't beat yourself up about it - get rid of the fags immediately and next time you think about buying some more, remind yourself what just happened.

the only thing you will find is tha you will start eating more... the day i gave up i was 12.5st now im 17.5st and i cant shake it off

I was exactly the same. Decided I don't like smoking and didn't want to smoke and I just gave up.

You have to want to not smoke and not like smoking to give up - I tried lots of times when I enjoyed a cigarette and it never lasted.

Keep it up mate, you will appreciate the benefits to your health, lifestyle and wallet

well its probablt not a wise idea then cus i'm already 22 stone, can't afford to put more wieght on
