Default MTECH Mondeo Zetec Turbo

I sent my Concourse mondeo to powerconversions for a zetec turbo conversion , 6000 grand later I get a carback that does not run and has a considerable amount of damage. We got the car home and ripped off everything powerconversions(be warned) had done and started rebuilding the car. We installed Pumaspeeds GT28 turbo and there high flow injectors (good kit) an intercooler and a whole load of parts from the focus rs , this is where Mtech Automotive then stepped in , they installed there Megasquirt V4 (designed by there managing directer Matt) and there mechanic Russ then worked damm hard to rebuild the engine powerconversions had messed up (leaking like a siv) once happy everything was as it should be ,it was up onto the rolling road they have to map the car. At only 0.6 bar Matt managed to get 250 bhp and a huge amount of torq. We were limited by the fact that the car still has its origional exhaust and gearbox fitted , so worried we would blow the box , they stopped there until just after Christmas when Mtech will install a Qaife diff. and exhaust. They say that we can expect well over 300bhp. I will post pics soon and Mtech will post dyno results. If you are looking to do a zetec turbo conversion or need eng. management , then MTECH AUTOMOTIVE is THE place to go , these boys work very ,very hard, do a fantastic job and basically got me out of the SH.T powerconversions caused , for a very reasonable price . I can not say enough good about them. Matt/Russ many thanks for the long hours you both put in to help me out, I now have a very fun car that shocks many people when a Mondeo estate with baby seats leaves them in a cloud of tyre smoke. Check out there site www.mtechautomotive.co.uk or mail Matt at sales@mtechautomotive.co.uk

Yeh thats the boost coming in I retarded the timing a bit earlier than normal to try and smooth the torque curve down a bit as it was running a standard box and didnt want it melting

We use the latest DD Digital rollers, the other ones you see are running the older DOS based dyno software.

What do you mean by a standard box?

Rich,

We will be taking an MTX75 out of that mondy we have here soon, its a good box etc. To makes things easier, we could build it up with quaife internals then just do a straight swap when you are next over, saves taking the car off the road longer than needs be!

Hi Matt

That sounds like a good idea , means you do not have to rush the building of the box too
Can you also advise which boost controller you recommend to go with the V4 and where I need to connect wire for FAN.

Have you had any joy with speedo??

Cheers Richie

I run 310lb/ft of torque through my standard mtx75 so you have a bit more power to play with. It has covered 30k and had a few launches at the pod to boot too, stronger than i thought it would be.

What car is it fitted in ???? Mine is already starting to make some noise , so I dare not push it too hard. Whats your car like for pulling from side to side with so much torq and a standard box , must be a handfull

Its a 2000 model mk2 st200 estate , the suspension is standard st200 except the springs are EIBACH and it is polly bushed , It works well , still comfortable but holds the road . Eibach are exspensive but worth the money I think.

Do your self-leveling rear shocks not work against the lower springs though? They did on mine.

Koni do a full kit for the estate.

It's fitted in to a mk1 focus, it doesn't pull that much to be honest. I have the AP organic clutch fitted and it's been trouble free. When it was first done i thought it would be a right handful but i have changed the shocks, springs and anti-roll bars at the same time too.

Ah, that explains it. They handle surprisingly well for such a big car! Shame I had to break mine in the end. Got any pics of yours to show us?

Yes once we have a boost control solenoid in there we can really get to work on shaping that torque curve! I would hope after upping the boost and mapping we can try an hold a steady 300lbs/ft for over half the RPM range.

Looking forward to it!

Richie, the best solenoids are the standard Ford AMAL valves, or indeed an Apexi item. The fan needs to be connected to pin 33 of the V4 loom, as per the diagram below, use a relay. Give me a call and we will go over its setup for temperature triggering etc.

In terms of speedo, not as yet, I will put a post up in the tech section as I am sure someone has come accross that problem (and then solved it) before.

Oh what a fabrication of the truth! A bit like when you said you would wire the payment and never did after we allowed you to take the car, which you knew was not finished or test driven, yet you were under pressure with a pregnant wife to get back to Norway. We were under the impression you were taking the car back to the Lake District where we were going to trailer it back after it had done 200 running in miles, so that we could rectify any problems. I as common practice run new builds in for the first hundred miles myself but your deadlines did not allow this. I was horrified to find out from your mother that you had driven it back to Norway, against our categoric advice not to drive it that distance until it had been checked and run.
You kept changing the spec; you kept changing your mind; yet all the while the clock was ticking against us and your deadline was coming ever closer.
We introduced you to Mtech because you changed the spec to the Megasquirt. You know fine well we worked around the clock building a second engine for you as you changed the spec because you wanted the same engine block including serial numbers to meet Norway standards.
The only mistake we made was allowing you to put us under pressure to release the car before it was ready, and we were happy with it and before payment. Remember Richie, that we have all of the correspondence, emails and texts, that were sent to you to try and resolve the problem, but you have only yourself to blame for your own negligence in driving such a ridiculous amount of miles in an untested, freshly built, new conversion against all advice.
6k on this conversion? Certainly not to us, so again a complete fabrication of the truth!
We are not posting this reply to defends ourselves, but to make people aware that there are 2 sides to every story. We have many delighted customers. We have no bad feelings against Richie, but find it unreasonable to lay the blame at our door when all advice was ignored and rejected.

So you are able to reply to somthing!!!! I too have all the corrospondance. I contacted you many times without reply about booking the car in too rectify ALL faults but you never replied , and luckily for me I did not send the final amount you asked for , or I would have been even more in the SH..T. The money for the Clutch (custom built ) the Quaife diff. , the intercooler that I paid in advance , where are they???? You had to use my engine(even though you had been paid in advance to built a new one) because you did not realise a silvertop would not go straight in a car built for a Blacktop. Between myself and MTECH we have had to rebuild everything , there is nothing on the car that you built, when I took off the bumper and all the rads etc just dropped out because they had not been mounted and screwed in properly,no vacuum pipes connected, air conn pipes not connected, inlet loose, lots of bolts and screws missing etc.etc.etc and the list goes on (and have pictures to prove). The car was also leaking like a sive with a big hole in it (helps if you put the seal for the oil pump in). We found the nozzles for the big end oil injectors in the filter for the scavange pipe, thermostat wrong way round so engine never warmed up. Sorry to go on like this but it is a sore point. Basically to say that the car was a mess (understatment) which has cost more than a new build to put right. Chris you had every opportunity to put this right, but choose to ignore my mails, I tried not to dis. you too much with the last post but if you want to continue I can post the pics and list everything. You talk about time pressures,if you had said the car was not ready ,i would have left it with you,but you said as in the mails you needed only one week, you ended up with the car for over 3 and said it was just a few small niggely problems to sort , nothing major. The only good thing you did was introducing me to MTECH Automotive , that have done a superb job and made me a nice car , and give me support when i need it. again thanks to Matt and Russ
