Did you get new holders from Ford Smit? Were they expensive? Do you still have the part no/finis code?

Mike - I found a genuine Ford set through a friend at Ford... They weren't cheap @ £12 each (as i had to get two) but came with holder+socket+bulb...

They were found on Microcat as 'Ford Licence Plate Lamp / Light Assembly' Finis code 6067427

They also were fitted to MK1/Mk2 XR2's and Mk3 escorts...

Sorry for the confusion....

I tried replicating the TVR plate mentionned earlier on a car I owned years ago. The actual plate is translucent and backlit, but found that no one was willing to sell the actual plate unless I had a TVR. So I ended up using LEDs.

Update

bulbs may differ via 4x4 to 2wd

mark may have posted the wrong links for some of the leds for a 4x4 sapphire

the tower ones work 100% via the kick panels and back bumper lights

The front interior light is a festoon but i measure it at a 34mm bulb

the BA9/233 1W Wide Angled High Power Led Bulb Xenon White

will not fit the light unit as the bulb is located pushed in via the back the led is to big to fit the map lights

also the rear interior back light is not a festoon

its a 12v 10w 2A R10W

maybe the 2wd is different from the 4wd

smit do you have the invoice they sent you via email to help please

as i carnt find the bulbs for the interior to fit on there site

cheers

Steve - IIRC yours is quite a late 4x4... I've gotta feeling they changed the front surround for late models?

My front interior holder looks nothing like that, has yours got electric sunroof?

The top of your 1st picture, the 2 twist in blubs fitted both my front and back interior lights.. The one by it's-self fitted the rear plate holders and kick-wells...

A LOT cheaper on www.dealextreme.com
anyone wanting seriously bright interior lights, could od as I do, I stuck 2x 12 pad vivex led on the front interior light itself, £4.35 each, and one on the rear light.
I also converted my interior lights so that turning on the front interior light illuminates the rear, but turning on the rear does not illuminate the front one, so people in the back don't dazzle me unduly.
I also put one in my glovebox, the light is good enough to easily illuminate the floor around the outside of the car.
Anyone want to be REALLY different, how about rear and front number plate illumination, cheap and easy, carefully drill 4 - 5 holes in the edge of the plate, glue in a decent led, as the plate is acrylic, this light will spread over the whole plate, obviously use red on rear and white on front.
On the front you could have any other colour so long as fixed(not flashing) even blue is 100% legal, on the rear must be white.
The above is what I am doing as fed up with dim bulbs andc rappy number plate lights.
Use any voltage led, with resistor, and around 10,000MCD should do it, say 5 along the long adge and 1 at each end.
Resistor value can be determined easy by Vs-VF/ma
in english supply voltage 13.5 - 3v = 10.5/ 0.02 ma(miliamps) = 525ohm , so any resistor from around 450 - 600 will be fine, use 1/4 watt carbon film, cost around £1.50 for 1 HUNDRED, led's are pennies too.
I'm personally putting RGB(red green blue) in the front plate, you can either get 2 wire versions that change the colours slowly or fast, or ones with "common anode", so you can switch it from RGB as you like or all on if you like.
An idea I thought about for the rear one was as a extra brake light, ie run through another set of extreme brightness leds to come on with brake lights, I already have my fog/brake light mod which works brill for 20pence!!
Hope someone finds this useful.

Why ?, you still have the option of turning off with a switch, just a few ideas for people to make thier cars stand out a bit from the crowd.
