If so, the review from the only person who knew the man and his work seems to point that he was presented in a bad light deliberately by the film, so AJ's comment doesnt surprise me.

Yea its the same guy Chip... and I can't see how he could have been normal and been put across in a poor light, he's just TOO out there IMO.

I dont think anyone would call him actually "normal" by the sounds of it mate, just the film underestimates just how amazing with animals he actually was, 35000 hours before he got attacked, thats a fucking long time! More than most gamekeepers would manage in a lifetime, let alone in 13 years.

and the only reason he got attacked was because he stayed after the bears he knew had gone into hibernation and was left with bears that he didnt know or knew him, a very simple mistake that suggested to me that he was on a suicidal mission, as we now know his girlfriend was nearly always with him unseen and something was not right on that last few days.

Anyway, amazing what he did with the bears and how he never got killed sooner!

Truly amazing he didn't get killed earlier as he was fuckin' annoying allright!

Never a smart move to mingle with wild animals as there will always be a chance they turn on you...

Still, can't blame the bear for sorting him out now can you?

I respect him for having the balls to get so close to them, but thats as far as it goes... he was an annoying, whining prick that made a schoolboy error trusting every wild bear he came into contact with. The part I couldn't believe was that he KNEW they were starving at that point, so being WILD, they're likely to kill and eat anything they can to survive... which didn't seem to phase him or force a distress call/flare which ultimately cost him and his girlfriend their lives.

I watched this and couldn't help thinking he was mentally unbalanced.

He reminded me of jacko at times, that blind sense of the world can be full of love and innocence.

What made me laugh was the rants on 'protecting the bears' but when the poachers showed up and threw rocks at the bears he hid in the bushes nearly crying? Then turns into Johny concrete on camera ranting at the rangers.

He clearly felt intimidated by civilisation and the wilderness was somewhere he could not be judged, the animals didn't take a view on him.

He seemed to believe that he would not be attacked by the bears and that he could scare them off if they became agressive and remain in control.

IMO he is the sort that causes more harm than good by make bears less wary of humans and less bothered by them being near by.

He may have wanted to be one of the pack, but even if he hadn't died the way he did ie for food, he would have eventually been challenged, bears may be able to survive a one on one brawl, a human tussing a 12 ft bear is pretty much spent from the off unless he is the technoviking in which case the bear would make a nice winter coat.

The irony for me was that he carried no weapon - gun, yet had he had a gun, he may have survived the attack, he didn't and died as a result, yet the bear died at the hands of man because of him anyway.
