How do you convert to Xenon headlights

Testing the future
as far as i know, xenon lights use a very high voltage, so you need some transformers as well as the blubs. if i was going to do it, i'd see if you can have a look at some in a scrappy to se how they work. otherwise, i think that you can by conversion kits from hella, piaa or whoever.

I had a look through Deemon Tweeks mag and the kits they do are whole light kits, they don't do a conversion kit from normal halogen lights to Xenon.
They are "gas emitting" so i was wondering if it was a little more involved than just a new bulb and a transformer, does the head lamp unit need to be ventilated etc?

I think that is the kit i need, but i don't know if the head lamp needs modifying.
Matt.

We've got an HID conversion from Technica SPA on our Skyline and it's bloody fantastic.
An H4 high and low beam kit is £430+vat. But you'll get a 10% discount if you mention Redline. The number is 020 8500 8418....

i have morrettes
and i can say it has been one of the single best mods ive done to the car.
Involves the Xenon bulbs, a ballast per side, a control box per side for the Hi / Low beam and another box each side for the voltage conversion
easy to fit
not so easy to fit when you have nil space in the engine bay as i found out
if you have an esc cos, change the side light bulbs for PIAA LED 'WHITE' bulbs otherwise you have quality xenon white / blue / purple mixed with the pissed on snow colour of the std side bulbs

Renton, that expensive, you can import from america a Phillips kit for just $550 (£290.00 ish) for a Hi/Low kit.
Thanks Dave, so all i need is the conversion kit, there are no mods required to the headlamp it self.
Thanks
Matt

yep, all you need is the kit
get the H4 kit as the bulb will be in the same shell that your halogens are. So they fit pretty much straight in
Arazel, i have left the inner 'main' beam as halogen, i havent found out what bulb type they are, deffo not H1 or H4. When i do, ill probably get some PIAA super white ones to fit
not really a big issue though just a mix of white and yellow when you flash someone

15K+ Super Poster!!
The Big problem with old fords is their wiring and headlamps.
The reflectors are old and worn. Get some new heaedlamps - only about 17 quid each from ford, and will make a massive difference.
As std, there is nearly a 2v voltage drop at the headlamp. I fitted seperate relays with thick cable direct from the alterntor, and now have about .3v drop. This is around 30% more light.
