Default BMW People - Would a blowing Exhaust cause a missfire???

I had the coils sorted and the car serviced at the weekend and it runs alot better but it still has a really small missfire....The guy who done it said that my exhaust is blowing which to be honest it is...he said this could be causing it to miss.

anyone know if this is true?

Yes it could be, particuarly if its blowing in front of the lambda sensor.

The plastic intake is prone to spliting and causing a missfire.

O2 sensor is the lambda sensor, if that's faulty it will b causing the miss as well as overfuelling.
If the blow is before the sensor it will show the lambda too much oxygen and then the lambda will compensate with extra fuel, that's not needed.
Depending on how bad the blow is it could cause back pressure problems.
Ever since I decatted my m3 I've had an intermittant miss, and I've got a proper decat with resonating boxes. A remap will sort this tho.

In short, fix the blow, lol
to find it easily, start the car and hold a rag over the tailpipe, the gas will come out of the hole and you'll hear it.

Try unplugging the lambda sensor, it should run fine without it, but wont run fine with it not working correctly.

The hose between the airbox and throttle body is prone to spliting and causing a missfire. easy to take of and check.

a hole in the exhaust or airleak will cause a missfire effect on idle, lambda sensor fucked or not will still cause it can still cause it to run rough, that also includes a leak after the lamda sensor... i now this as my clio has a hole in the exhaust and when i sealed it the missfire/slight rough idle dissapeared

also check for oil leaking from rocker cover aswell

WHY did you buy a e36 325 and get rid of the jag ?

Mine (320 E46) sounds as if its got a slight blow, but been under it and cant see/feel anything, but it does have a random missfire, when you pull away you have no power whatsoever... Only does it now an then, but bloody annoying!!!

no as the later 325 E36 engine has the tensioner as a complete unit,, the ealier one you can buy it in parts like the piston, spring, washer blah blah blah

i sell the complete tensioner so can "warranty" one but we dont do the earlier one

aint sure what BMW charge for it or what part i need so its easier to just buy the complete unit off the shelf

no power aint the same as a slight blow on the exhaust mate, get someone to cover the tail pipe ( not with hand) and get a bit of hose pipe. one part in your ear and the other along the exhaust and you will find the blow
