now thats some proper racing love the way they aver shoot the straight at the end trying there best to finnish first

did i hear him say that astra is 4 wheel drive did they bring into production as a homologation (sp) model, that would be a sleeper and a half, i bet not alot of people would remember the astra, not like the rest of them i.e r64,rs200 and that

Think of that astra as like gallachers focus, ie it kind of looks like one but thats about it, lol

that astras a rear wheeler no?

my mate gave me an astra sri years ago, i stripped it out and was gonna use it as a track car, but it was just too rusty on all the major places lol. that and it just wouldnt go round corners lol

ended up scrapping it before it was used in anger lol

no dan its a 4wd car that general motors built for group b rallying that went tits up due to the plug being pulled,the rumour was there was 4 built and Welchy bought 2.

thinking about it, it does look too fast for a 2wd!

i was going on the basis that a stripped out mk2 astra would weigh fook all but watching it again you can see its 4wd as later in the vid it lights up all 4 tyres on the mud

They were called the "4s"

Fucking shame they didnt get funded for longer, cause even the early cars were fucking quick, bit more time and they could have been legendary!

IIRC one or more of then actually ended up with ford engines at one point as the vauxhall one hadnt been developed enough at that stage.

so were shocked that a opel/vauxhall running cosworth tuned engine and running gear beat a cosworth built engine and running gear rs200. the only vauxpile about that astra was the body. fecking quick though. i know which one i will remember and always want though

Its got a vauxhall engine, and its got xtrac transmission

Cosworth do work for lots of people, got no idea why ford people seem to think its just them, lol

interesting the bloke who built the transmission aka Mr X as in Xtrac Mike Endean owns the half a million quid ford puma with the rs200 evo donkey.

i should be on radio 1 you know where that gay boy mate of moylsy does the 360 thing and ends up back at the start.

Mike Endean is also the current owner of the very same Astra 4S featured in this video

I have seen one of those in the flesh, at the time i had no idea what it was, iir 1996, we where scrutineering at the vauxhall plant at elsmereport, and it was just there in the hangar. looked very mean to be honoust, huge transmission tunnel inside !

from that car big things happened and Endean probably became one of the biggest names in Motorsport transmissions.
Mike Endean bought back the original car from british Rallycrosser Barry Squibb around 1994. the front had changed to a mk4 style but it was still the very same car and he then restored it to its former glory.

Endean now is owner or part owner at Mclaren Nicholsen who prepared the £500 grand Puma and they do all sorts of high end F1 stuff and LeMans cars engine rebuilds and prep.
He sold Xtrac for a fortune and obviously has the wedge to play with the sort of toys that sort the men from the boys.

I have seen one of those in the flesh, at the time i had no idea what it was, iir 1996, we where scrutineering at the vauxhall plant at elsmereport, and it was just there in the hangar. looked very mean to be honoust, huge transmission tunnel inside !
heres a funny thing Mark,

my mate has a pic of a Russell Brooks Andrews Heat for Hire Chevette that was in a stores in Eleesmere Port along with other GM gems.
somehow somebody decided to start clearing stuff out and it was suggested to get that old Chevette gone,it was cleared from above to be sold and the next day a mate of a mate bought it and trailered it out of there.He has a pic of it leaving on the trailer.
about a week later someone from Luton high up went ballistic when they found out about clearing the famous cars stored there and the old tin tack was promised unless that car went straight back.
it did indeed end up going back,there was a load of aggro but that car is in the museum now on show and part of Vauxhall history.

Endean now is owner or part owner at Mclaren Nicholsen who prepared the £500 grand Puma and they do all sorts of high end F1 stuff and LeMans cars engine rebuilds and prep.
He sold Xtrac for a fortune and obviously has the wedge to play with the sort of toys that sort the men from the boys.

Yes mate, im aware of Mike Endean's background, he's done well for himself.
