Default Cosworth BOA + Mazda MX-5? (pics)

Just something we have in for V4 ECU+Mapping at the moment..

Chap has done cracking job of the fabrication. He only works with BOAs so when he came accross an MX-5 he decided to combine them both!

Not mapped yet, but looking to see what the results are from his custom plenum that uses Omega V6 Trottle Bodies..,

Will post the graphs up after its done!

Thats what I said... it all seems to just be 'right' for the job. He made a custom bell housing as well. Impressed throughout with the metla work this guy has done... notie the boost looking pipe on the far side... Supercharger anyone?

Yeh its tidy..

That was an area of concern for myself... the standard MX5 is 90 or 120 bhp depending on the 1.6 or 1.8 BP engine IIRC...

Could be interesting. He may of uprated the box though, I'm not 100% sure on whats under there but I did stress to him that doubling the power would cause issues, but he said that it will have no problems, so guessing its uprated...

Time will tell

Yes it would, as would an MT75 IIRC, but then you have the problem of the gearstick not aligning (engine spacings may be different from bulkhead etc to get gearstick central)

looks very tidy.
if he used a type 9 it would break under even standard power
if he used a mt75 it would take the power and he could surely play around with the big gearstick frame on them ,forward/backwards to get the stick position right

depending on how old the engine is, when it was last rebuilt etc, i'd be surprised if it made 220 personally !!

i thought the BOAs were only meant to be like 195 standard. :S how could they make 25bhp more 15years later if ther standard.

or is it exhaust systems and induction kits that give the extra power

Well yes they are known to be hard to tune for extra horsepower, but they were designed for fuel efficiency and that weird torque-stuff they talk about.

I had a Granny Cosworth for a while, lovely engine that never used a drop of oil at 100k miles (compare that to a YB) and was VERY good on the motorway mpg-wise. But the filthy gearbox was a joke - how Ford forced that lovely engine with that AWFUL box on us I'll never know.
