Default Anyone running a GT30 on std engine?

Did/does it drive shit? or are they ok? im planning future headwork etc when it blows up next, and need a new turbo now (for new chip), but instead of me going out to buy a T34.63, is it better for me just to bite the bullet and go for a GT30 instead?

You want the bigger variant of the GT3071, Cossierich uses one on a stock engine bar head gasket and 4x4 inlet and thats 450hp odd !

Definitely the way forward as they drive nigh on like a T34 anyway I hear but with loads more potential

I did indeed get my turbo from the Chipster.

I use a standard port head with a now mental inlet cam. 4x4 mahle pistons with valve cutouts and 7.6:1 c/r. i need to update my resto thread actually as there has been some changes of late

i wouldnt put a GT3076 on a standard engine. A mate of mine had a fully ported head from Mark and it started to surge at 2 bar becuase he was still on standard cams. So unless you get the head ported and change the inlet cam i would get the smaller version like i have. Just my opinion boxxer

yeah, i was looking at the 3071. i think that would be ok on a std engine for a bit until it shits itself.

I wasn't aware your engine was low comp Rich, not exactly a stock engine as I thought internally but great results either way.

I would definitely NOT be putting a 3076 on it though, overkill really unless the rest of the engine is specced for it.

Are you on a 205 or 200 block Boxxer ?

3071 internally gated on the bigger housing like cossie richs with anti surge porting is my idea of a perfect turbo on a standard YB

Comes in at about 900 quid at the moment I think though, prices have gone up, I got Rich's for him for 750 IIRC!

Jonny,

the only difference is the slight drop in c/r on mine. Think its 7.6:1. Everything is standard cosworth apart from the inlet cam. If my turbo ever lets go i will put the bigger gt30 on it to see what happens. And yes Chip, that was the price

I wasn't aware of that although most YB's have had a drop in c/r anyway but I did think yours was literally stock minus a gasket.

Either way its still a VERY cheap way of getting a good 450hp which really is what its all about
