driving off without paying for petrol.
Has anyone else seen this new system ?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/threecounties/c..._feature.shtml
There is one in Luton on the A6 . It is a good idea but what if it punctures someones tyres then the car looses control on the main road and crashes into innocent people ?

If my head was up my arse and I forgot to pay, that would only add to my misery. However, I've never forgotten and don't think I wouldn't see all the warnings.

you could always pay at the pump before you fill up..... they just need to give the option for fill up, then it debits your account as per....
if you pay by cash, just go in, pay , fill up and then drive off
easy!! I hated paying before, but now im used to it and it doesnt bother me.

What they could do is, go to the counter, give the cashier the card, fill up, cashier processes it while your on your way back, put in your pin and job done.

typically they ask you to pay, but seeing as you never really know how much yuo are going to put in, and i don't tend to carry cash so their alternative is to leve the card behind the counter while i fill up
like fuck am i going to do that
just have a small sectio of forecourt rise up when you are suthorised to fill up and job done, might cost a few quid ot instal but it will eliminate the problem once and for all

Does anyone know if Petrol stations have the right to keep your card? I remember when mine wouldn't work and he said he was keeping it, even though I paid by other method. I was outraged and 'swiped' my card from behind the desk and left. I was later told I stole it. How can you steal what is yours?

Petrol stations should pay BEFORE filling up. We would just have to get used to it. It would stop people stealing the petrol, end of. Put "Pay at Pump" machines like Tesco and don't have a manned stations over night to save on staff.
People say petrol stations are the worst for cloning cards, but I personally have a debit card which I will never use in a shop, online or anything. Yet I use my credit card all the time. I would rather someone clone my credit card and take the banks money, instead of using my debit card and letting them take my cash! I lost my bank card in a cash machine last week (Problem with cash point) so I moved all my money out of that account for 2 weeks to be safe (Ive heard people put something that stops cards being ejected from machines, which the Police confirmed when I reported this to them in case of fraud and I cancelled the card straight away).
My question is.... If they stop 100% of petrol theft would they reduce the price of petrol by any amount?? Like fuck will they...

I would be very interested if this was used on someone as they fled only to have an accident and have legal grounds to sue the station for damages, and the legal situation of the garage that just caused a 4 car pile up with 3 people dead, be very interesting.
I have on occasion forgotten to pay, but station mananger who I know well, pays it for me, then lets me know I owe him some money!!
I forgot at tesco drove off to the cashpoint at tesco store as happened to be going in there, rememberd about fuel payment, so went back to pay, about 5 mins later after filling up, they said we reported it to the police we saw you drive off to the cashpoint.
I said fine here is the money, they refused so I said fine thanks for the free petrol, I'll be in the store(tesco) if the plod want to talk, they did, we walked over to the station to see station manager and when pointed out by me tesco refused payment so I accepted it as a gift, pod confirmed to them what I had told them, theft is a intention to PERMANENTLY deprive, as I had gone back to pay this wasn't the case.

I work part time in a garage on nights, i'll use my discretion wether or not to ask for pre-pay. I'm lucky that most customers are regular.
If they want to pay by card and i ask for the card it is always kept on view of the camera and not touched till the person is their watching, shame most independent garages are tarred with the same brush for card cloning.
If the customer ain't happy then their is a HSBC machine at the end of the garage they can use so they can pay by cash.
When the chip and pin came into garages my Uncle filled up his car in Hunts Cross, when asked how he was paying he said by card, the person behind the counter asked for his card. He then asked for his pin To which my uncle said no chance, the garage had the chip and pin machine bolted to the wall incase someone robbed it

While we're ranting on this subject - filling up from a pump on the other side of the car to your petrol cap.
WTF is wrong with people - Tesco even has signs saying "pipes will reach both sides". Yet people still que for ages for the pump on their side.
I drive round the que where possible, then run the pipe around the back of the car and fill up while looking smugly at all the fucktards still in the que.

Amen to that

100% agree. Always just drive round them and if I am in the volvo, stretch the hose across the car and if in the M3, make sure it doesn't touch the paint anywhere...

yu lot realise HOW cards are cloned dont you ???
they make a copy of the reciept as thats whats got your numbers and expiry, they then look at the back of the card for the 3 numbers claiming to check the signature,,, this is why chip and pin is VERY good as nobody touches your card to get the last three digits,,,,, they dont actually scan the bloody card on a seperate card ready like you see in james bond ect
some places even have lazy staff that loose the pdq slips as they cantbe arsed to manually write the numbers down
at work i refuse to take credit card details over the phone as i used to work with someone who used to take card details on the phone,,, and also use them for online purchases

So what happens if you aren't paying attention of go over the amount you gave them? Or their shit pumps suddenly go a bit faster and you over fill by a few pence? Are they gonna let you off? Are they fuck!
Or what about when oyu want to brim it - how can you tell exactly how much it's gonna cost?

Why not have a pre-paid fuel card for everybody? You top up in a petrol station, over phone, etc say put £50 on and then if you don't spend the entire £50 you can use it next time. Thse can be used in the Pay @ Pump machines and it only allows what amount you have on the card or less.
Companies can top up the cards and keep track of it and if someone wants to put £10 in they go into the shop and pay before hand!

With my car at tescos, if i use the pump on wrong side of car there isnt enough hose slack for me to turn the nozzle to the right angle to fill my tank so it stops on the overfill cut off every 2 seconds!! then of course it takes me ages to fill the 25L tank

i'm sure everyone will boycott tesco until they see sense and fit longer fuel filler pipes for your motor

I've never had a problem in 14 years of filling cars, the hose always reaches. Sure there's never miles of slack, but unless you're parking in the neighbouring pump area the hose should reach just fine
That's why they make the hoses the length they do - you don't need 5 foot spare hose to fill on the same side of the car

the pumps are designed with hoses long enough to reach both sides. if it doesnt you must be crap at parking. it reaches over my van no problem.
