Default Anyone good with relays, pin numbers etc..

In the process of fitting a cosworth V6 engine in my capri and as its not originally an injection model i have to wire in a fuel pump and relay.

Am using the fuel pump relay from the granada i used as the doner car for engine and loom etc, its a 6 pin relay and need to know which terminal does what ! Cant find a wiring diagram for the granada anywhere to try and work it out from !!!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First pic the pin numbers are starting at the top and going clockwise, 5 at the top, then 2, 7, 3, 6 and finally 1.

that may be one of them fire up prime the pump relays

you'd be best off going for just a normal relay set up unless you absolutly deffinitialy positivly need to use that one

which year is the car as i've got some diagrams at home (if the wife hasn't decided that they look better tidided up) that i can have a slok for you at

Yeah i think its one of them relays that primes the fuel pump when first switched on then is triggered fully when engine starts.

Dont deffo have to use this relay its just i thought i might as i have it already and saves buying another one !

If i use a normal 4 pin relay it will run the pump constantly though wont it ( when ignition on ), at least with this one wired in it would only prime the pump for a second then switch off until i crank the engine.

Originally came from a L reg 1993 BOA Granada.

If you have wiring diagrams Dojj that would be a great help mate and have a couple of wires coming out of the loom towards the ecu that i cant find a home for !! Also there were a couple of resistors in the original loom that i dont have fitted just now, are these essential fit or will it run ok without them ??

3 of these in total throughout the original loom.

wouldn't have thought they were needed for the conversion mate, the engine loom is virtually stand alone with one wire for the pump, one for the rev counter and then power and earth when you get them all singled out

bet you've got a whole load of white plugs that you can't figure out the use for either eh

i'll have a look when i get home mate, probably about 3 though so you'll have to wait a few horus

The BOA ecu controls the prime up of the fuel pump.

Just use a 4 pin relay (cant remember the numbers off my head)

fuse a wire from the battery + to the relay
wire relay to pump
ignition live to relay
pin 22 ecu to relay

Pin 22 is an earth thats swiched on and off by the ecu so that works the relay for the fuel pump basicly it will prime and stop when the ignition is switched on and will run constant as soon as you start to crank the engine over.

I would just use a 4 pin relay.

Terminal 30 - Permanent live (Fused),
Terminal 85 - Earth,
Terminal 86 - Trigger from ECU,
Terminal 87 - Output to fuel pump.

Or if the ECU uses an earth as a trigger,

Terminal 30 - Permanent live (fused),
Terminal 85 - Trigger from ECU,
Terminal 86 - Ignition live,
Terminal 87 - Output to fuel pump.

Hope that helps!

That would mean that the ecu outputs a +ve signal and it does not its a -ve

so it should read

30 Permanent live
85 Trigger from ecu
86 Ignition live
87 Output to fuel pump

Cheers Mark, should have known you would have been the person to ask about this, especially going by your username !!!

Have a couple of wires at the ecu i cant quite find homes for, maybe you could help me out with them ?? Will have a look shortly and get the wire colours.

Can you convert the basic standard loom to fit the capri ? Know of someone wanting to do the BOA conversion but he's concerned about the wiring, said i was sure i knew of someone that could do this for him. !

it's the R17 fuel injection relay

pin 1 goes somewhre
pine 3 goes to the fuel cut off via fuse 42
pin 7 goes to pin 22 in the ecu
pin 6 goes to fuse 40
pin 2 is earth
pin 5 goes to the auto box relay

i think, the kids are in the way so i can't get the ruler out

give me until about 6 to get it all sorted properly as the wife will be home to get them out of my hair

I now have same problem as COCO16 and note your reply to him was useful but incomplete 'cos the kids were on their way home. Are you able to identify all of the 6 pins for me please? Do you know of a site where I can find pump wiring diagrams? Would appreciate your help. Brillo boy.
