can you see what im getting at though? i mean we all comment very accurate bhp figures, but these can very!
so to me the best way is to have a set standard! which generally is with no ancs

Surely the only place the horsepower counts is at the wheels so that is where it should be measured???
You cold have a 500 bhp 4x4 car with a flat battery, and aircon running which actually only lays down 350 bhp.
In the bike world bhp is always measured at the back wheel. My old blade made 200bhp and that is exactly what was put down on the road.

You know what i mean though Mark.
If you browse american honda and bmw forums they tend to quote all their horsepower at the wheels.
Now i'm usually the first one to make sweeping statements about all americans being fat and stupid but i think they have actually got it right this time.
Would be interesting to see how many people have cars that actually make 500 bhp at the wheels!

much much harder to measure fairly. Would need everyone to run at the same ambient air temps, the same tyre make, the same tyre pressure, the same size wheels, the same sized gearing and the same gear at the same time.
Engine out dyno removes ALL that pap.
So engine power should be measured on a dyno to give u a bench mark of engine vs engine. Then u should stick it in the car and see what bhp it makes then - but hard to compare like for like

Its nearer to whats in the car, if I was number chasing I would have run mine without anything fitted.
I was just pointing out that not all 500bhp dyno sheets are on an even playing field. People dont realise this when dyno figures are being branished around.

What spec is needed for a "genuine" 500? (and when is 500 ponies not a genuine 500 ponies? )
T4/Gt30/GT35
BD16's
Well ported head
Long studs (6/10?)
WRC gasket
Injectors (8 greens/big siemens)
RS500 style intercooler
Lowered comp
Loadsa boost
What else?

Rod u must be getting too used to assuming everyone on here is thick as two short planks. Why are you saying you "cannot" measure them equally on a dyno? If they both run with or without ancil's that is equal, on the same dyno too. Sounds pretty obvious. I am awaiting someone who knows how many bhp tend to be lost on a 500 bhp engine when u add PAS, alternator etc. All assuming u are running on the same diameter exhaust u will have on the road. If it is 10 to 15bhp then it couldn't be more irrelevant. 10 to 15 bhp at 500 bhp means nothing unless u are competing at the utter cutting edge of motorsport and where tiny differences can help.

scs built and proven......
i have a dyno proven 680.7 bhp running on carlane race fuel and 640 bhp on bp super, i had the car on a rolling road and to the wheels it made 543 bhp..
so thats the loss of around 100 bhp which should be about right for 4x4 transmishion loss..
p.s the company that rolling roaded the car was good frends of mark from mad the company is called ai auto sport..
thanks steven...
