Default disconnecting egr from tdci (photo)

hello all, i just want to disconnect my egr temporarily so i can see if it makes any differance to my tdci not picking up at very low revs, on one of the tdci forums they said you could just put a ball bearing in the vacuum pipe to the egr, also what about the 3 solenoids would you just disconnect them

thanks andy

This is what I've done once to make a mondeo driveable again:

Detach the actual hot exhaust gas pipe from the valve. Between the pipe and the valve you'll find a metal gasket. Get yourself an old bean can and make another gasket from that, same shape but without the hole in the middle. Put everything back together and the car should run fine again.

Worked fine for 300 miles till I got the reconditioned EGR valve.

hi pal, i think the mondeo ones are different on focus tdci the egr is part of the manifold
the hot pipe that comes off the bottom of the egr goes to the turbo, what about the 3 solenoids

You need to fit a a blanking plate between exhaust gas supply pipe and the valve itself. This will stop contamination of the combustion by precombusted gasses actually getting to the valve.

The valve may be stuck open slightly. Removing the vacuum will not have any effect (or at least a marginal effect) on the car if this is the case.
