Is there anyway to trace what the original number plate of a car was by its chassis number?

I.e Would fords know?
From old records

Spoken to the DVLA and then said they cant do much without the reg plate, and its on bloody austrialian plates.

Basically i would just like to register the car on its original number plate, but the current keeper has no record of this. As the importers in Austrialia did everything for him, so changed over the plates to austrialian ones.

This was like 10yrs ago, so is kind of hard to trace.

Ring up experian and do a check with them mate, should be able to do it from the chassis number, I'd do it for you but if the cars been nicked, the old bill would be turning up here

HPI wont do it on chassis number either just spoken to them.

They need loads of info. Well basically i have everything expcept an English Reg Plate.

So there saying i need to register it a UK car before they can HPI it, and then they can only tell me what happened to it since its been registered, lot of good that is.

Cant some company just tell me if anything wrong with it while it was in this country before it was export i.e Stolen or Finance etc etc.

Obviously they cant tell me anything about the car while it was in austrailia

HPi ain't that good anymore mate.

Have you actually tried Experian? It's who HPi get alot of their info off anyway

Its a traders only thing, why the fook did you give me that.

And yes they can do it on Chassis Number only, but only for dealers, not Joe Bloggs

can you check records like that though if its not linked up to the database?

Just want to know original Reg, so i can find out as much info on the car before it got exported to Austrialia in 1994
