Default Autoglym RANT

I have had enough of this polish!

It works ok on the cossie apart from the powder prob but I have been trying over and over gain to get a good finish on a metalic black car and cant for the life of me!

It keeps turning to white power and then streaking when buffing off leaving dark and light patches.

What do you guys recommend for a replacement as I just chucked the super resin in the bin!

cheers euan

Is poor boys only avail over the net?

I want a polish that gets the job done first time and with no messing around.

it was taking me 10 mins per panel earlier and I still wasnt happy as it was leaving nasty streaks.

I know black cars are harder than the white Im used to but come on!

I've got a black car and don't find super resin to be a problem....always make sure the car's nice and cool when i polish it tho as in todays heat you'd never get it off lol! I normally do a couple of panels at a time and it buffs off ok, I use the meguires terry towels to get it off and find these work well.

It always turns to powder/rubbery flakes no matter how much or how little and no matter what the ambient temps are.

GEts to the point where the car needs washed after I have polished it.

mmm, only thing i can think is that you're putting too much on?? I use an applicator sponge which puts it on quite thinly, apart from that i wouldn't like to say?! I know it's not what the concourse boys use but brings mine up pretty shiny.

autoglym aqua wax is good you just spray it on wipe it over cars surface evenly then buff off with a clean cloth and it doesnt go powdery or mark the trim like other waxes!

I have to say that I have stopped using Autoglym stuff altogether.

I use one of two products depending on time. If I dont have a great deal of time, I use Megs NXT - one coat, very very easy to apply, and even easier buff out.

Alternatively, use the Megs 3 stage process. I tend to use just stages 2 and 3, as the paint on mine is pretty good, and the first stage is basically like claying the car.

Given your complaints, I suggest you try the NXT - it is expensive, but it gives a very very good finish, and is easy.

Super resin polish is only AG stuff I use, take it off with some megs last touch or other detailing spray, stops the dust.
Afterwards apply a decent sealant, like Blackfire Midnight Sun.
PolishedBliss do it, should see their photos of some on a black car.

if you want a good easy to use no effort wax that doesnt dust and can be used in any weather then stage 3 carnauba wax is the one!

ive just ordered the trade stuff to see how much better it is.called yellow wax.a much higher carnauba wax content

did you know meguiars made zymols high end hand applied wax?3k for a tub

try mixing the super resin and extra gloss into a 50/50 mix......thins it down so you can put a thin coat on and gives less/ no dust with good results (concours trick)

I binned off autoglym as soon as I tried Meguires Gold Class.
Its not the poshest or most expensive but the improvement was vast. No powder at all.
I dont bother with anything else now, a bottle lasts for ages and my car is basically worthless so theres no point spending real cash on polish.

Best way to get proper car care stuff is to get in touch with a valeter. You might find one of them who's willing to sell you some of the professional stuff they use. Works miracles!

I believe it's like a big conspiracy. The stuff the big companies sell to private customers will never be half as good as the potions made for the pro's.

That stage 3 wax you can see the protection dissapearing, the time it lasts is measured in minutes, not weeks lol.

Poorboys has cropped up a lot, fantastic for the money, does the job.
EX-P sealant will look great on black, and lasts and lasts.

These more expensive products often work out cheaper, as they work so much better, and last so much longer.

what do you want from it?

You want durability, go for Collonite 476s

You want a deep shine, go for Poorboys Natty's paste wax (white for light cars, blue for medium-dark)

You want a good all-rounder, pay a bit more and go for a Dodo Juice wax

My advice would be go for the Collonite 476s and splash out on a bottle of Zaino Z8 to go on afterwards. People will think you've spent a fortune when you haven't

Im a valeter and i use autoglym products, i do alot of dark cars i.e ranger rover sports, bmw 5 series etc and never have a problem, if you use too much your guaranteed to get the powder and if the car is in sunlight or paintwork is warm itll look patchy only on dark colours, do circular motion first rubbing into the paint to get any grime etc removed, then buff off and do it again with jst a skim of polish just wiping along and back and wipe off, ive had the problem before with the patches on dark cars but after mucking about i found this definatley worked, hope this helps, thanks
