I work at a Ford main dealer and there's no schedule for changing the chain, also, never known a headgasket to go, EVER, main problem with them is that the timing chain tensioner's lose tension when left overnight causing the valve timing to jump and smashing the cam carrier, which results in a new head being required.

The chain is easy enough to replace though, if you need any advice, give me a shout!

i had a 02 2 litre tranny diesel with 200k up it, only thing it had was diesel pump at 150, the rest including timing chain was original, that van looked and drove like 60k miles
the company i bought it from were in the motor trade and they told me it was a good un,they even replaced it with a new shape one.
