your asking a question which depends on alot of things, at the end of the day a car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it
if you answer the below questions we migh be able to give you a informed answer
convertible?
coupe or 4 door?
colour?
mileage?
service history? main dealer or independant?
number of owners?
condition?
known engine issues are the twin Vanos they run and the Nikasil issue. if you look on www.bmwland.co.uk you'll find millions of posts about what to look for etc
the asking price depends on so much stuff..............its like me saying, ive see an a Cossie H reg for £5000, is it worth it???

Doesn't sound too bad to me...although i'd personally go for a standard example.
Nikasil problems aren't an issue on the M3 EVO engine as far as i'm aware...VANOS problems ARE an issue though!!

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I know this car. He bought my Series 2 off me a few years back.
It's not a bad car at all, and I think it's reasonable at that price.
Check out the BMW forums to see if there are any recalls that should've been done on it by now and make sure they are done.
All the best.

I paid £6700 for this 98 S plate 6 months ago, FSH BMW, 102k, extremely good condition completely standard even down to the radio, with a sound vanos & £1000 be carefull their are a lot of bad examples for sale.
I would expect to pay around £5500 - £6000 for a nice N plate 96 example, also the colour makes a difference, boston green & red are not sp desirable & are normally cheaper, estoril blue seems to hold its money better but i would say that !

£6000 for that one, depends on quality of uprated parts really.
I couldn't have an evo, some have had 3 or 4 vanos units by that mileage, others do double that on one, seems no rhyme or reason to it.
There are fewer and fewer genuinely nice examples now, getting cheap and neglected, if it's mint would snap it up at £6000 or a little over.
Well, if I was you anyway

Mine's an N plate non evo (got the latest 3.0 litre I could) and M plate is non evo.
This is one car you have to be careful with, and is a good idea to pay the extra.
Many are being neglected now, and an Evo for £3500 I wouldn't entertain.
Can't see fbmwsh for that price.
Just make sure you know your way around the vanos, marbles in a can noise when revs drop from 2500 when hot.
Check diff works.

Upto you mate but you can pick a decent clean looked after convertible for that much if you look hard enough
Depends what you want. Personally i wouldn't buy one now after a bad experience. Bought an EVO convertible as a daily runner so i can park me saff up 8 days later the engine was knocking. I was gobsmacked though it was a bad example kinda but price paid reflected that i guess. Never thought ill buy another one but:
Just managed to pick up a Daker Yellow 3.0 Convertible which me cousin owned for the last 4 years and sold on to some lads in Scotland. It come back up for sale and picked it up for a well decent price so am well chuffed
Either way best of luck dude with finding one great cars if you find a good one

You'd be better off breaking it, can't see anyone buying it for 3.5k when you can get an early M3 for near that price, probably be a good car to turn in to a full on trackday car. Saying that i had a 3dr Cossie on a Q plate that said Sierra saloon on the logbook & sold it to the 1st person for 6k last year Trouble is from previous experience E36 M3's are quite hard cars to sell for some reason.

For the money they're the best all rounders available I think.
Servicing isn't expensive at an Indy.
Some parts are expensive, but they do more.
Quite cheap to run compared to the type of cars it was compared to in it's day.
