Loss of power (vauxahll combo).........engine light now on..
My 54 plate 1.7di vauxhall combo seems to be running way down on power. It only started this morning and its that bad that i sometimes struggle to get up the slightest inclines. Going up the M62 earlier i was struggling to hold it at 65mph and had to change down into 4th.
Theres no other symtoms, the engines running fine and is still smooth and there are no warning lights on either.
Anyone have any ideas on what i should check please???
Cheers.

Check the pipe that goes to the map sensor - had exactly the same problem with my TDDi Focus Saturday and a clever man called Ian @Power Dynamics sorted it for me in 5 minutes the car was still smooth but no boost and didn't want to rev etc. The pipe fixed it instantly.

Mr S1, that sounds like the same symptoms as mine. Its as though the turbo fell off. Ill have a look at that in the daylight mate, cheers.

Well the engine light has come on this morning and the problem seems to come and go. One minute its struggles to get to 60, then it judders and its back to normal speed again, although the light still stays on.
So its obviously going into limp home mode as you suggested lambchop.
Im trying to find out how to do the paper clip test on the ecu connector but cant find any info for the 1.7di combo engine. Ive done the test on loads of petrol vauxhalls but never done a diesel and with me not being able to find any info suggests that its not possible on my engine maybe?
Any help on this is appreciated. Cheers.

Its a 1.7di mate, 2004. Yes mate ive had the light on many vauxhalls before and it is usually something small. Ive always found the fault myself with the engine light flash test by bridging the pins on the diagnostic plug, but i dont think i can do it on mine being a diesel. Well i cant find any info in it anyway

Ecus are really comon on these.mainly tend to cause other problems like cutting out when warm and not restarting is the main issues iv seen them have.also ecu is repairable if you know what to look for.also as said above map sensors clog up.check turbo wastegate isnt siezed up.also boost solenoid valve pretty comon to.

This should work on that age of van to tell you what the fault code is without diagnostic machine! Used to work on my Corsa.

so after reading all that it could be anything lol, listen mate work/own a garge and you need the van scoping and ECu read to see codes or its guess work and wastes money buying loads of crap you dont need, my money is on a dry joint on the ECU, but this depends on what engine you have as there is a vauxhall engine and a Isuzu engine in the same CC etc fella good luck

cheers for your replys, im told its Isuzu low blow but it say Vauxhall on the cover, problem seems to happen only when engine gets warm, me thinks its egr thingy by what ive read, il take it out and clean it at the week end and let you know any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated
