Default LOW OIL PRESSURE ,,WHERES IT GOING???

got problem with a cossie having low oil pressure (0@ idle-15 psi @ 3000rpm) so we took off the sump all looked mint replaced bearings and pump anyway but still very little pressure.

removed cam cover and stripped out dizzy and run pump up with a drill and no noticeable oil coming to tappets.

this is checked with the cars own gauge and a proper mechanical test gauage

i know the front left head stud hole is used to carry the oil to the head thought maybe this was leaking but doesn't appear to be

This Engine Has Been Dynoed And Done Miles So It Was Fine When Built

just wondreing if anyone else has had this experiance??

Got the same problem with my old engine buddy, cars not tappy, bottom end not knocking, apparently rebuilt 6K ago, bought it off here, at idle 2psi, at 2K 15psi and 22psi @ 3000rpm.

Sounded good

Took the engine out and fitted a spare, it still on my engine stand. dont know what to do with it.

could it be a blockage in a oil gallery.try testing the pressure from the cylinder head oil gallery plug, is the oil pump drive rod worn, seen loads of these rounded off,or fitted upside down, long side goes towards the dizzy.

As the Cossie has a simple oil system it can only be a couple of things,
Stock oil cooler? what was the oil pressure on the dyno?
Check bigends for wear, check to make sure the oil pickup gasket is sealing, Check the oil pump clearance to block to make sure there is none as this is the most common fault I see with oil pressure.

if it was a blockage it would still have pressure. and i have removed the dizzy and manually turning the pump with a drill

think it could be this blanking core plug.

we over filled the sump so the pump would be submerged in oil to eliminate the chance of it drawing air through the pick up

What about the pump to block you couldnt have put that much oil in it.

this is exactly what happened to my engine whilst it was at stu's place getting mapped except mine had ZERO oil pressure. the engine had already done about 700 running in miles by then as well. caused no damage as they cleverly noticed it before starting to map it.

Does anyone have a picture of the offending item behind the auxiliary pulley ?
I've lost 10 psi oil pressure, and want to investigate if this is starting to fail.

I have high pressure oil pump and now is giving when hot:
18 psi at idle
55 psi when running higher rpm

Thanks

This recently happens to me ridgy I only had 5 psi of oil pressure even when revving engine, I'd imagine yours would be fine if only lost 10 psi, you don't get any oil to the top end when this pops out so top end gets damaged pretty quick!

Yes mate little core plug about 10mm. It's easy enough to check but u have to take the belt off and the auxiliary pully.

But as Lee said, if he's still seeing 58psi, no way has that core plug came out.

Can't see it being the plug with that pressure you lose oil feed to the top end also so engine wouldn't run for long before it would get damaged. Small possibility it's got a small hole but more than likely a weak spring in oil pump I'd take a guess at.
