Another PS3 question(cant get online)
Ive got an ADSL usb modem, and i just bought a Belkin router, little did i know it doesnt work with USB modems(wrong connection) so what do i do? another router but with a modem built in?
Although we only have one pc in the house and the ps3 is literally 6-7 feet from my pc/phone socket so would it be easier/better for me to just use an ethernet cable? also would that be all i need to get online, one cable from the pc to the ps3?
Please help me im so confused

I dont have a PS3 but I have an 360. Personally I would hard wire the PS3 directly into the modem without going through the PC. You want to keep your latency down (Ping) so wouldnt run anything else off the connection...defo dont use wireless ones or you will get owned. Ethernet connections are far superior to connecting via usb etc

This is my modem http://www.cyboor.com/images/SpeedTo...SL%20Modem.jpg
power which is usb into the pc, and the other straight into the filter which goes into the phone socket, no other free holes in the back.
So how do i "wire the ps3 directly into the modem" Metpol

mmm interesting one... I use a cable modemwhich has a dedicated ethernet port on the rear of the modem. This goes straight into the console and your up and running.
whaat ports do you have on the rear of the modem. Are you saying that it comes straight from the phoneline using a RJ42 connection (phone) then out via usb to your PC

You can buy modems which have either USb output, which looks like you have or ones with Ethernet or both. You should connect through ethernet as it gives you the best connection. You can pick them up cheep enough from PC or online from ebuyer

All these router things confuse the hell out of me as I dont use them. Like I say I would rather use a Modem which has an ethernet port so you can just come straight out of the modem into either PC or console.

Metpol cheers mate at least i know exactly what i need and it wont cost me much, ill be blagging at pcworld tomorrow for a refund on this Ł49 router i just got so i can then get a ethernet modem thingy and ethernet cable
One more question, is there a choice in how long the cables are because it needs to be about 6-7 feet long to reach my modem under the pc

Had a rumage through a storage box ive got chucked behind my sofa and whats in it? a fucking really long ethernet cable, but all i can do is try plugging it in the back of the pc.
EDIT i plugged one end in the ps3 and the other into the pc and just tried to go online on Resistance but it says "no ethernet cable connected" why does it say that
I know i havent signed up to the ps3 community thing yet but that shouldnt have anything to do with it
