Default when refering to wheel width what is the J after the figure?

as above why do people say 8 J wide rather than 8 " wide?

what is J??????

J just refers to the rim contour shape, to do with tyre fitting, most people dont know what it means and just say it anyhow.

Dont worry about it.

Just take "J" as inches, as thats what most clowns think it means, and the number before it will be the width in inches anyhow, so youl be fine mate.

J is the shape of the rim... you can get JJ for example.

rim width is always quoted in inches
