Default What Do You All Think Of The Ford Fiesta ST150?

Could you live with one for 3 years? Because if I decide to get one which I want to next year I will have to keep it for 3 years. I like them an awful lot and I can imagine there alot of fun. But as an everyday car?

What are your thoughts, Cheers, Benni.

Got to take one to national day and fookin loved it!!

All it had was a resonating exhaust, cams, dream science and a couple of other bits and it really flew.

I was plesently suprised how much fun it was to drive, although there was three of them all having a play on the way there

Just to add Jamsport are running in a ST at the moment that has just had a 2.5 conversion done

Even though it is limited to 4000rpm at the moment it came past me like i was going backwards so when that all run in and mapped on its bigger throttle bodies, it will make an awsome car for sure!!!

Buy one

Matt

my sons got one and it goes really well the only thing is its gutsey on fuel thats all hes had done is a induction kit and a bluefin but i dont think much of the bluefin so its going to jamsport to see what they can do to it but the car drives nice and i think its a lot of car for the money when driven right it can put most faster cars to shame

Ok so I'm biased but as an every day car (which mine is) its really good. I've owned her from new (24/03/05) and she's done over 40,000 miles and hasnt put a foot wrong yet.

Some people think that it has a slightly disappointing performance despite the fact it has a 2L engine. I can sometimes see what they mean but I found once I had mine and run her in, after a few thousand miles the car really started to loosen up and change. Some have also expressed disappointment at how hard it seems to get more than 20-30bhp gains from mods without some serious tinkering but as an every day car how much difference would I feel between mine and a standard one? Not much crawling through traffic in London!

I can easily get 300+ miles out of a tank of fuel. Some say V Power is good for mpg or BP Ultimate. I find the good old "what Pinky can afford" & some moderately sensible driving does just as well lol.

Some reckon the tyres arent all that but I think the P Zero Neros are just fine. Some of our members (male ones at that...funny eh?) go through them at a rate of 9,000 miles buuuuut because I "drive like a granny" mine lasted well over 23K lol. So if you wheel spin it every where etc etc expect to go through tyres!

Mods are slowly slowly coming out now so if you want to mod it, you can. There are plenty of exhausts out there, cams, induction kits, lowering springs, coilovers, big brake upgrades, lights (e.g. halos) etc etc and companies like Jam Sport, Torque of The Devil, Pumaspeed and Pumabuild to help you out. I'd steer clear of Bluefin and go for Dreamscience though. You can either get the Strategem which has a few generic tunes based on a car that had just an induction kit & aftermarket exhaust or get the DSF3000 for a custom tune to the specific mods you have like cams, exhaust etc (but if you have a Strategem you can then get a custom tune done because they're the same units).

I'll have to say that if you do mod it (esp with an exhaust) motorway miles can get a little "boomy"/loud. Plus people have said its begging for a 6th gear but cruising at 70 in 6th on a motorway, is not what its about. If thats whats ya wants then get a Focus ST! The Fiesta ST is about the twisty roads!

Lowering it is almost a must (the handling improves no end) but get a cushion for those speed bumps and potholes. Its tracking can be knocked out quite easily too, especially when lowered so expect to be at your local wheel allignment centre at least once or twice a year.

Errrmmm... I cant think of anything else but feel free to ask

I think the little Fezza's done me proud in the time I've owned it. Like PinkRinse, i've owned mine from new (also a March 2005) and we've both watched a great raft of tuning oppurtunities arrive onto the scene since. It's the type of car that's definitely got enough power and sorted handling to keep you smiling if you keep it standard, and Ford have left it mild enough to get a group 13 insurance category. It does drink a lot more fuel than I expected but i can live with that. 300 miles form a 45L tank is possible
Like a lot of people on the fiestaST owners club, i took advantage of the tuning developments and spent a lot of cash on the car, and in my opinion made it better. I took the usual route of a wheels, induction kit & full exhaust system (though didn't go for the off the shelf manufacturers but got one made by a respectable motorsports system company).
I lowered the car at first with Eibachs but then moved to an adjustable Gaz road kit. Then came my best purchase for the car, which was a Quaife ATB diff, totally transformed the car. Interior-wise, the front seats have been replaced with Recaro grp bucket seats and the rears taken out. I've done so much more to it but not gonna go through it, all. Just saying that there are so many possibilities.

Recently a very popular thing to buy for the car is a dreamscience remap, which i have been very impressed with. It's relatively new compared to Bluefin but the Stratagem generic tune definitely shows solid results. Other than that, a few people like JamSport have been pushing the engines with various cam kits, pistons/rods etc. Even replacing the standard 2.0 with a 2.3 Duratec and ported heads and other engine work.

I think the car's still got plenty of life in it, even with the new Fiesta over the horizon. it's still one of the best looking cars Ford have made in a long time, and is showing no sign of ageing yet!

Well, it's not really much of an ST anymore. I saw it at the Autosport show and it's actually a YB powered 4wd. Loved watching it on sunday, it's phenomenally quick!!

I'm not buying one mate, Because I have a few 'Problems' I can get a brand new one for £500 upfront on the motability and then everything paid for. But I have to keep it for three years and then I can pick another one. So if I was to get bored of it I am stuck with it.

Thanks for the long and very good replies, Benni.

Fantastic as an everyday car, clocked up 10,000's of miles in the last year in mine and I can't fault it other than it's a little juicy and has developed a few rattles... but it's a Ford so you can only count one of those faults.

I say Juicy, I've been driving the new Mondeo 2.5T around this week and that makes the Fiesta ST seem like a 1.4 TDCi in economy terms!

Handling wise etc, they are that good I'm seriously contemplating building a modern version of my XR2 into an ST / Mk6 Fiesta...

HTH!

Oh I got the Dreamscience thing a little bit wrong. You can install it onto a standard ST, get some gains (the car it was created from saw 163.9 bhp from standard) and add mods like an induction kit & exhaust later

Its the fact that it can be completely mapped, adjusted, has 3-4 settings and keeps your origina setting that sells it over the bluefin.

Guy saw 301hp from a Focus RS with a de-cat and manifold when he got his.

Mental bit of kit, will blow bluefin out of the water.

How does dreamscience work? Doesen't a tuner have to Map your car and upload it to the handheld unit?
