Default has anyone blocked there EGR valve on a TDCI?

geting the problem with black smoke and under performing.

a common problem with these on the focus owners club

anyone actually blocked it off?

I have blocked them off on other vehicles with no adverse effect. My advice is to block of either the pipe from the exhaust manifold to the valve or the pipe from the valve to the inlet manifold.

I think the EGR valve, would cause a bit of decrase in performance as it pumps a certain amount of exhaust gas back down the inlet. But as for black smoke, most diesels do it, especially on hard accerleration, also if the fuelling has been tweaked with will smoke even more.
