Default What can cause low oil pressure?

apart from a knackered pump.

my SHIT CHEAP UNRELAIBLE gauge is showing lower than normal pressure at idle.

im gonna get it checked against a real gauge later (and ive already ordered a new gauge too, as the current one's shit anyway) but just incase, i wanna know...

the car has no oil leaks and oil level is half way between min and max.

also it MAY have the wrong grade oil in it (i dunno) but i doubt it

it normally reads just over the 20-25 mark on hot idle. now its reading the 15-20 mark on hot idle

Worn crank, larger main/big end clearences, fecked oil pump, thinner oil,

or a dodgy gauge!

Mike why does it matter as to if Jim is standing or "seated" ?

Jim how can you post questions, when by your own admission theres so many problems to overcome before asking for help on here ? BTW change the oil for a decent oil and fit a decent gauge and see what the readings are then

ok, got it checked with proper gauge

it's 20psi at 800rpm

rises to 30-40psi at all other times (which is whats its always been)

thats pretty normal for my car, so i'm happy.

I'd go with this myself, appart from the pump of course. But without enough back pressure, due to buggered shells it will read low.
