Buying second hand goods from private individuals-protection

Is there any protection for me if I buy second hand items from a private individual by mail (not mail order) if I then dont get the items?

Not really, unless the item isn't sent, then I *guess* that constitutes fraud - but doubt you'd get far as it's one person's word against the other. Best to ensure the item(s) are sent by special/insured delivery.
