Default what is it & is it worth restoring

Hi All merry Christmas to you everyone, I found this escort sitting in my mates storage yard I am not sure what it is and is it worth putting back on the road or using it as a track day car.

The story goes that the last owner of the car planned to do some modifications although the car has no engine or box in it, it is set up for a mondeo engine and box to be dropped in.

the car is sitting on yellow shocks (koni I think they are) and the front brakes have bigger callipers on the drilled and grooved discs.

I am thinking it may be a mark 5 RS2000 but not sure of this (can I decode model of car by the vin code??)
also I have no logbook or number plate so I don't even know if DVLA will issue me with a logbook??

bodywork wise the care is in great shape even the battery tray is rock solid it has sat in my mates shed for over 8 years
any advice thoughts would be great thanks
oh by the way it's up for around £300

I'd say it's worth £300 running and driving with an MOT. Offer him scrap value!

shell looks quite good though. surely if underside is as good it's worth the money. make a good project if it is as tidy as pics.

XR3i should have a 1.8 zetec

Rear chassis legs are prone to rot as is sills and fuel filler area.
