Default xr2 conversion from 1300 ohv

soooo...... its a little bit backwards....I have a 1300 mk4 escort two door estate in white, Im looking at converting it to a 1600 xr2 engine from a mk1 fiesta which is about 90 horse power compared to my current 60... so this is the list for my plan.

XR2 1600 motor with a 5 speed box.
bike carbs.
4 branch manifold.
mid spec cam.
and possibly a big valved head and gas flowed.

the only things I don't know where to go with is drivshafts and what other bit and pieces I need to do the conversion... obviously I know ill be going from electronic ignition the distributor... but id probs swap it over to electronic at some point....

I have chosen this option as it suits my insurance and also suits my work load...

any ideas and thanks in advance

Johnny

Is your 1300 a 5 speed?? Use the escort 5 speed box and shafts and the fiesta engine. Simple as that. The mk1 fiesta never came with a 5 speed so im assuming your using an escort box that is

nah its a 4 speed, I need a 5 speed to run the 1600 I was assuming.

what escort box is 5 speed that I could use maybe just another mk4 escort but off a 1600 maybe.

I thought that xr2s were five speed....I could be wrong though......

this is where I need the guidance as Im unsure which parts are interchangeable.....my old man is a ford nut..... but alas were still unsure what crosses to each other....... he mentioned an rs turbo box and an xr2 engine..... but then what shafts do I use my old ones or ones from the donor rst...... it gets to be confusing stuff you know...

cheers fella

mk1 xr2 were never 5 speed. mk2 xr2 were. Some people did conversions in the mk1's. Any 5 speed box from a mk4 escort will fit. Just the ratios may be different. Just get the mk 4 escort box and im sure even the shafts are the same weather it be 4 or 5 speed

You dont have the mk1 xr2 engine then?? To be honest i think you may struggle to get one for a reasonable price and they are a very very old engne. Would be easier to buy a 1.6 cvh and go from there. They are in loads of escorts and fiesta's in carb form. Even the mk3 had them in the 1.6s. slip a cam in it and descent filter and an exhaust and your away.

mk2 is a cvh. As found in many escorts and fiestas. The ohv in your escort is not the same as an ohv from a mk1 fiesta xr2 im sure. Yours is a valencia if i remember right and the xr2 is a kent engine

so your escy runs the black box esc then? and coil pack?
you want this.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-ESCOR...item58a0eddded

then either £140 on inlet / 70 for bike carbs / 30 for a pump or £20 for a round top late xr2 carb and 30 for a pump job done. engine needs stem seals which are nothing and a new release bearing again nothing. guess you'll need a 5 spd linkage too which aren't expensive , even better a puma linkage about £25 on ebay. parts for the cvh are sooo cheap! and they go well enough for a daily driver.
