Default been offered a xr3(not 3i) w reg. bit tatty but all original

this is all original apart from the battery tray & few small bits of welding on cils & floor

its got a few small bits of surface rust on most panels but in no way a rot box.
missing its head rests & parcel shelf is like a coulinder.

its in sunburst red with the grey stripe interior.
its been keyed all round at some point & touched up with touch up pen .
but been in a barn for over 10 yrs.

its been offered to me for 1300 quid.
i know its worth this all day long but
do i respray it to make mint or leave it as it is.

& just give it a good buff up.

dont wanna devalue it by spraying it.

as it will be for sale pretty much straight away if theres a good profit to be made

& does anyone know how many are left on the road ?.
-1 as i still have my old one sorn but it was chopped up yrs ago due to being rotten

Knock the 1 of the price and you may be closer to what it's worth.

The small bits of welding will be far more than you think too.

I'd be leaving it where it is at that price and buying this, near enough a years test and taxed, needs no work for £1650 ono.No brainer really

http://www.seriesoneturbo.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35753

There's a blue one on there in need of work for 600ish too, can't remember the exact figure and it's not selling either.

its coming with a full mot,
should of made this clear in my first post really,

its had the few bits of welding done, new rear tie bars, front ball joints, full exhaust inc down pipe, new discs & pads, drums stripped & new cylinders, shoes etc,

front wheel bearings & rears greased up,

didnt know if it was worth more than the 1300 he was asking for it,

with a good spray job & alloys referbed & seats cleaned etc
surely its gotta be worth around the 2000-2500 mark,

i can get the bodywork done @ mates rates as my mate works at body shop & can do stuff his self at weekends,

& colour is sunburst red,

im tempted to get it as its a original car & dont look like its ever been messed with,
even got the original xr3 sticker on filter box

ive had a good look round it & checked all the inner reararches & up behind fuel tank etc usual mk3 places & its solid,

to say its been in a barn since 1998 & not touched, its in useable condition,

any more opinions welcome

i got till end of the month to make my mind up if i want it or not

Must have to be a member then, sorry.

If you were to see what was for sale you would see what i mean when i say you're mad to even think about spending £1300 on something that needs work to the extent of a respray if all you want to do is sell it on.

They may be advertised for big money but they aren't selling at those prices,it's the same cars for sale since months.

It's only an XR3 remember,not a mk2 Escort

dont think its even possible to get a mk2 in a road worthy state for that kinda money

& might only be a xr3 but when was last time you seen 1 on the road ?
as i aint seen 1 for years.
i see series 1's & 2's regular & seen 2 rs 1600i
& various cabs etc but aint seen a mk3 xr for a while.

i gotta weigh my options up on what it will cost to make near mint &
if its worth bothering with.

The xr's are actually rarer than the turbos. And for the record you can get decent money if they're a good car, I got nearly 4k for my efi 3i just after Christmas. It was used as a daily/fun car (i work from home so not a 'daily driver') but kept better than some people keep their show cars.

You've just gotta find the right buyer.

hate to say it but i have to agree with stevenr - going by your description i would say its worth more like £500 esp if its been keyed / patched up

I paid £400 for this not too long ago

Just for clarity, I wasn't saying it was worth what was being asked. I agree I'd want one fairly well presented for that money.

Depends how bad it really is, if it wants £800 to paint it and that's literally it, then it could be worth a grand if the rest of it is in top nick.

If you're doing it just to make money then it's not so easy, but for a hobby, making a little for yourself and keeping another one going then well worth considering.

I'm not saying they're not rare, just not as rare as the OP is making them out to be.That car he's talking about buying is in no way worth the asking price IMO when you look at the one i linked to earlier,on the road car that needs nothing doing for £1650 ono.

The problem with old Fords is that most of the owners live in fantasy land since the mk1 and 2 Escort prices have rocketed.

modified focus & e46 318i coupe i need to sell
i just saw it & remembered how much fun my old one was to drive.

suppose its only gonna be worth as much as someone is willing to pay & as said earlier in thread its finding the right buyer.
il just hang on & in a year or so once i got a house but myself a decent rs turbo instead !!!
