Default XR3i Fuel Consumption

What sort of miles should i get to a tank of fuel?? I brimmed the tank, loike all the way t the top of the filler neck, re-set the trip meter and drove til it died, i done 295 miles!!! Surely it should do more than that?? I drove it like miss daisy as well, no high revving etc!!

you should get more than that mate, should be mid 30's at least if your taking it easy- the mfi is actually quite a fuel efficient system.

maybe check the ignition timing? if its needing advanced you can get more power and more mpg, also if the cams worn and tired it will effect economy and power, just a thought

As above, check timing, also may need to get fuel pressure (and control pressures) checked by a K-Jet experienced machanic.

A 3i running roughly and out of tune will get up to 30mpg, I have had quite a few 3i's (Mk3 with shorter final drive of course) and i would get 35 on averge driving steady.

One thing that makes a big differnce is tyre pressures, I always set mine 2-3psi or so above standard specs for summer use and standard for wet winter weather.

Let us know how you go mate.

Ps, chuck some redex through because your injectors might have a poor spray pattern and this will not help either.

If I use mine in town on commute from dagenham to paddington I get 24 to the gallon. If I take it steady on a long run I can get 340 from a tank if that helps. And my ignition was advanced to about 16 degrees which is wrong. Have adjusted now back to 10-12.

ive been told that 80s f.i is rubbish so going to move to bike carbs, hopefully should see a performance increase and throttle response increase not too sure on the fuel side of it. However, not going to be my daily runner so wont be an issue
