You gotta be silly to run a Cossie w/o a dump valve, that's why Ford fit them standard - and Fords are cheap ass bastards!

If you have no dump valve, it will send air to your turbo to stall the blades. Also the trapped boost will try to escape through the easiest exit out, so it can blow your clamps off. Finally, it will slow down the turbo, since it's trying to stall the blades, whereas a dump valve will keep the compressor wheel running at speed, so there will be less delay in speeding back up.

Plus the sound of an atmospheric dump sounds great!! Tells everyone 'F@CK @FF I got a turbo, you slow-ass b!tch!"

Problems aren't evident until they remove the intake hose to the turbo and discover excess play in the turbine shaft. Then rather blame the lack of a DV, they'll blame it on the turbo

Not really

Ford fitted them as standard, because do you think business men would want their car making chatter noises all the way down the motor way?

Remember they were a rich businessman's car to start with (Sapphs)

However, you are right in principle, but it only applies to turbos T4 and bigger

The two are very simiolar, but surge is far more severe

And I do believe he was originally talking about chatter, as it's only when you remove the dump valve he said

I am getting confused reading this, I have a brand spanking new turbo on mine, with no dv when u let off or change gear, I call it wastgate chatter, or a FLUTTER or somthing, sounded alot louder when I but a come filter on to when I had the air box on.

Put a dump valve on it, to keep your turbo in top-shape then.

Very true mate. Only T4 turbo's or bigger.

Do you really think that Karl Norris would have mapped Tiff's old car with 32psi spike and 28psi held (on a T34), with no dump valve if it REALLY mattered? (Just an example)

It does matter....obviously it matters more as the flow of air is increased (eg T4). You will see issues with the T4s more sooner then you would T3s (eg bigger blades resting on the same sized shaft). But it still causes an issue with T3s. Otherwise Ford would have not put one on a T3 producing 9 psi.

Obviously you don't have to listen to me at all, and do the f@@k you want mate, but I would rather side with caution methinks.

if a t 34 is running 9 psi as standard and you up it to 30 psi then that must be classed as under stress so more prone to failure so the fitting of a dv to reduce stalling of the blades must help ???????????

No need to be like that mate

Yes it matters, but nothing worth worrying about IMO on a T3, just my opinion!!!!

Ford put the re-circ dv on there as the customers at that time probs wouldn't appreciate chatter

a mate of mine had a stage 3 car t34, no dv. turbo stalled and the turbine shattered, sending all the pieces into the intercooler and a few found there way into the engine and killed it dead!

Air going the wrong way through a turbine can only be bad and cause damage, they just are not designed for that sort of abuse, if you run no dv the risk s all yours cos i dont want it!!! it may sound nice but so does running no air filter but it obviously isnt good for the turbo or engine.

I always run a dv!!
