Default Intermittent wiper

My intermittent wiper is not working on my 1988 Sierra sapphire cosworth, the big red relay I believe is for this but it doesn't click or anything, has anyone else had this issue I do have another wiper stalk of a lesser model but it has writing on the top of it as well as the sides to use if it would fit?.

do you have the intermitant wiper switch in the dash?

looks the same as the dimmer switch and lives just behind the wiper stalk

move that and if it works it's the switch

if not it could be either the motor, rare, or the stalk, more common

It does have a switch in the dash which I have already tried but got nothing. So the stalks are quite common then?

Just re read that now im on a pc, so if the stalk is faulty and I move the intermittent speed control switch and if it works its definetly the stalk?

No, the fact it works means the stalk is not at fault, the rheostat has a problem.

yes, the variable thingy in the switch normally burns out the tracks on the electric circuits so you have patches where it works and patches where it doesn't
