You can use whatever you like, just don't go mixing different colours.

Back in the day it was blue.

As said don't mix.

You can get a coolant called prestone which is yellow and turns green if you have headgasket issues

Blue is IAT, the newer stuff is OAT, which causes damage to older engines.

The benefit is, the latter has a longer life.

It can attack gaskets, solder used in older radiators etc.

We have these issues sometimes at work with the vintage and 50's cars.
Also iat and oat mixed can cause it congeal and block water ways.

I use that Evans waterless coolant. Seem to be good and haven't got to worry about mixtures

So what's the alternative these days as you cannot get the old type ford coolant anymore.
I'm gonna be looking into this when my engine bay resto is gonna get underway soon.
What about Blue col? Any other alternative, would prefer to stick with old type coolant for the YB.

Thanks. Lee.

I use oat in mine. Its like what oil you use debate.......

Blue col with distilled water will be as good as most imo.

Hi,
It came from the factory with pink stuff in it so I got pink stuff from Euro and put that in.
As far as I know blue lasts 2 years and pink 5.
Cheers,
Gavin

Most (as do I) use OAT, as Tony said it was not IAT originally.

As I said earlier. I gave Ford the antifreeze spec from my manual for the Cosworth, and they gave me the correct stuff. It goes in almost luminous yellow, but when you add the water it goes pink.

It's all the same really, barring what type it is.

Got the pink stuff in the new Fiesta to. Original Ford to. I think in the Mondeo it was pink to...someday long ago. Never really care.
