Sapph Sunroof Gear splines
Hi Gents
I've done a search on here and found a few threads on the matter.
I have a manual sunroof (winedy - windey) , big tooth spline and want to convert to an electric sunroof. I have all the bits and bobs but the motor has a fine tooth spline gear.
My problem is that I dint have access to Granada parts or other escort parts that i can switch around.
The bracket and motor fits perfectly but thinking of stripping the motor and some how changing the gear or having one made to fit or making some sort of adapter?
I cant change the sunroof mech as I only have one.
Has Anyone stripped the sunroof motor to see if this can be done? (Change the gear)
What other options can I venture towards?
Help would be appreciative
Cheers

I've managed to dismantle the unit:
If I don't come right with either, engineer, clock maker or sunroof installer then last option will to buy a complete unit or maybe just the cog
Hope I win
Cheers

If I remember correctly (it has been over 10 years since I changed it) you first open the sunroof and then there are 2 screws that you remove from the top. To actually have room to remove the spline you also need to remove more screws in order to lift the mechanism a bit. When you put the other one back in make sure the spline runs correct on both cables, otherwise the mechanism will run very heavy.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
does any of you have the complete wiring harness for the power to the electric sun roof motor and lights panel , i have all the bits to change mine in the sapphire but no wiring harness, also do you have to cut the headlining to fit the motor and bracket , thanks in advanced

Which wiring harness do you mean? The one that goes to the sunroof via the A-pillar, or the wiring between electric motor, relay and switches? The wiring for the light panel should be there anyway. For the sunroof you only need a switched 12V. I took it from the other electric windows to make sure it is on the same fuse.

to power the electric roof , also does the head lining need cutting or anything to make this all fit , i have all the bits plus a second sun roof but no power running up the a pillar , what gauge wire would i need to run

Yes, you will need to cut the roof a little to fit the motor. You will also need to make a bracket for the back of the cover. I got the switched live from the electric windows wire.

Hmm interesting i didn't know you also needed a additional bracket. I thought the cover just clips onto the main cradle, mind you I'm still mocking mine up for the conversion also? Mine was the windy windy type
Here is a quick vid Youtube vid I saved in search of fitting the same thing
