Valuation please Sapphire
This my first post on here, always liked a cossie but was never in the right place for one, now they seem to be creeping up in price at the moment, always been interested in mk1 escorts anyway a mate has a Blue Sapphire that he is thinking of getting rid off before he moves, it was parked in his garage when his wife fell pregnant ten years ago with no faults, it has had 5 owners, original bill of sale, clocks say 81k, it has cloth interior stage 1 chip, koni shocks bodywork looks very very good. what do you think it would be worth or what would you pay??

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Rarest colour although not the most sought after, think only 400 produced in crystal blue, had one myself.
It's the condition that matters and if it's original or not, original engine/ shell etc but standing for 10 years will need recommisioning, new oils, belts, bushes, filters, brakes going through etc etc, is the engine free and unseized? You'd need to know but if it is I'd pay up to 5k

If the garage suffers from condensation check for rust and corrosion.
It may be a bargain but do all the checks before you make him an offer.

He has recently had a valuation from the RS Owners club saying it is worth between 8 and 10k as it is, does that sound right?
How do you upload pictures on here?

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
I didn't like crystal blue, wanted a moonstone, although searched for ages and eventually found a mint crystal. Love it now and super rare! I am biased now tho!! Gutted it's going into dry storage for the winter

proper inspection?
There is a very good looking 4x4 Saff for sale in the cars for sale section on here with abz474 that looks spot on and was advertised for Ł10,500 but it has now been reduced from what his latest post said. That is a running car with all the history and specification listed. Have you seen the post?

The above mentioned 4x4 is a cracking motor!
Seems a strong valuation for this crystal blue one unless it is pretty solid, no point paying 10k on one that needs arches sills chassis legs and the rest ontop of an engine rebuild. Unless like I say it's pretty solid, has anyone seen a standard saff selling for 14k? I've seen a low miles white one forsale on eBay for ages unless it's away now think it was 14k 29k miles.

When I was looking for a saph I called about an e plate white 2wd that had done 87000 miles, was up for 14k and when I called I was told it had been sold so that that answers your question, you could argue the buyer haggled a bit but it was a dealer selling so I doubt he negotiated thousands off.
That saph looks straight and original bar the indicators, fogs or lack of and a few bits under the bonnet.
As long as it's rust free and the running gears good it looks a good buy.

If I had the choice of a straight crystal blue saph or a 4x4 I'd have the crystal 1 all day long and 2wd will always be worth more than a 4x4 in similar condition.

It's all personal choice at the end of the day.
That crystal one the op has just posted looks really clean worth a punt depending on sills and chassis legs ect.

See I'm a bit different mate I wouldn't buy a cossie just because I could sell it on for more, I bought mines because I want to keep it and don't want to entertain the thought of selling it. Mines is a 4x4 converted to 2wd so comes with the better engine, l8, leathers and bonnet vents ect but with full 2wd suspension brakes and running gear obviously uprated in places.
It's all personal choice at the end of the day.

2wd are worth more than 4x4's as most have been cannabilised for conversions just like yours making them rarer and that increases the price as has been seen over the past years.

Now the photos are up it does look pretty good considering its been stood for the last ten years. If you are going to have a closer look get the guy to put a battery in , check oil and fluids etc and see if it starts. The paintwork looks very good and it seems rust free but again have a good poke around underneath to be sure. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good buy for you.

looks a good one to me. I have a completely standard except for stainless exhaust 2wd Saff. Never plan to part with it but it would cost a lot more than that if I did! Have you seen the dvl a figures as to how few are actually left on the road? Lot more 3 doors in their figures!

2wd and 4x4 combined total 520 that's crazy there must be a fair few more 4x4's about. I wonder what the totals are split up.

Blimey!! that is a lot less than the last time I checked, it was about 1300 3 doors and 985 Sapphires road registered. Is it because so many which are still in good roadworthy condition are being broken for spares? I have seen some really good ones being broken and the seller saying " dont even ask me if I will sell it complete it is being broken end of " Sad to see so few left now.

If I was trying to sell it I would expect potential buyers to want to hear it running? If I was travelling a long way to see it I would want to know the engine was still ok.If not you could be up for a lot of money for a re-build.

520 left, wow, there must be more than that.
I have 2,I know of 5 tucked away that have been off the road for years, plus another 1 that's an everyday car.
There must be a lot more than that that have never been sorned.
Scary low numbers equals higher values for tidy cars.

That was too far gone?! Really?! I can't see a single bubble on it! Even if it was a bit shit underneath it would still be worth sorting with a good straight rust free topside?

They all have rust lol people may say they don't but they rot from the inside out. I bet if you got right into the chassis legs or seal area on most with a bore scope camera you will find rust. But at the end of the day it's only metal it can be fixed. Unfortunately if you can't weld and paint yourself it costs a lot

Ade,when I dropped the rear beam the section the big bush mounts into came with it,the sills, inner dills, floor pans, chassis legs had been filled to death and the nail in the coffin was the passenger inner wing/front chassis leg was bent up so it needed jigged, welded then re sprayed.bought a better shell but ended up snowed under with saph parts so I sold up and bought my first mk2 focus rs.
Gave the blue shell a good go though.
