Default my ebony 4x4 saph finish or break???

i have owned my saph for 8 years been off the road since 2012 due to valve guides but started a family and struggled for time and funds to do anything with it but now have more of both..... so i have been away from the ford seen for a while so unaware of current values and prices i am guessing to sort valve guides and replace valves and put back together would cost me a grand or so then i would like it repainting in original ebony black....

but this cos is not my dream car so i am undecided if to break it to get maximum money back i do know i will never get everything back that it owes me but all cars are a waste of money thats life

what i am trying to find out is whats a average non running cossie worth in bits parts i have that are perfectly usable are

4x4 block that was stripped and rebuilt using std size burton power mahle pistons and rings i have receipt for 625 i think
new 4x4 oil pump
no4 conrod has been repaired
new big little ends thrusts all less than 1000 miles old with receipts

the cylinder head with worn guides but had it measured for thickness and was told plenty of skims left
std cams

t3 hybrid turbo again less than 1000 miles
greens ecu p8 i think
leather interior in very good condition
later curved top dash being a k reg
good bonnet 4x4
and body kit

could anyone tell me what i would get roughly im in no rush to do anything but would like to have a rough idea before i start selling bits off hope i havent broken any forum rules nothing is for sale yet as i havent mind up my mind keep or break

I had my head skimmed, pressure tested, new bronze guides, all new valves and 3 angle seats, stem seals etc etc for Ł425, a blind monkey can take the head off and put it back on, might need new head gasket and head bolts depending what you have fitted.

with the way the prices are going, finish it then if you want to sell at least it will be running and make more.

What is your dream car?

If its not your dream car then dont bother imo.

All my childhood and teenage years i dreamt of owning a cossie, Now i do there is nothing that churns my soul more than pulling the Cossie out the garage and just seeing it.
If theres something out there that would give you that feeling more then go get it and sell the saph

Agree with you Glenn, if it is a sound car with no major rust or mechanical problems get it running and then sell it. It will still be worth more as a complete running car.

I think a tasty TVR would be just as likely to be targeted by thieves as a Cossy.

that has surprised me i bought it as a fixer up runner and did all the bottom end rebuild when it spun number 4 big end
but im picky when it comes to my own cars and to be happy with it i would want the wiring sorted as it has the usual cooling fan issues and its stood under a few covers outside for the last 4 years so i would want it repainted to make it nice again the rear arches are starting to go too and i know if it run i would drive it and it would break again cus thats what cossies do lol

sorry i was thinking more along the lines of using it weekly in the summer and leaving it parked in public car parks where my cos seemed to have magnetic doors ..... if i spent the same money on my cossy i wouldnt dare use it and i dont want a trailer queen

when i bought it i knew it was a cat d i went all over it and could only find the front wings replaced they are stamped 96 and its a 92 k reg and at the time it didn't really bother me and still doesn't but i know trying to sell as running moted car the cat d will lower the value... so would it be better to cut my looses i believe 80% of the value in a saph is in the engine and running gear

Dont break. Get it up and running and get it up for sale. Time and hassle breaking it you may as well sell it and move onto what you want

I think you would easily make the Ł5.5k figure if you broke it up. Fit up the engine and that would be worth Ł2k to Ł3k then there is the rolling shell and interior etc. You would get Ł5k if you get the engine running and sell as a whole.

I bought a Cerbera brand spankers in 1999 / 2000, back then they were a big deal and used to draw a lot of good attention. They are a little annoying at times...the engine used to pop and bang and run badly if not driven hard the whole time (mine was a speed 6 and it went bang shortly after selling it) There is nowhere to put your clutch foot as no room to take it off the pedal and my gear knob used to get so hot that you could not touch it in traffic....the electrics do some really funny things and bits of trim used to fall off.

You need to make sure that the outriggers have been changed or checked as the powder coat from factory was poor and the outriggers that support the shell rust through and that is a body off repair (many have been done by now though)

I would buy an AJPV8 if I had another and would be prepared for chassis mods and stick an LS in it if the engine failed (although the purists do not like it)

ha i love the madness of the things that go wrong with them. i had loads of old fords so not shy with a tool kit, i think any cerb i could afford would be of the millage where all the little silly things would be apparent and hopfully ironed out again with my budget i think i would be looking at 4.2s

as far as the cos goes its stood for the last 4-5 years so theres no rush i wont be buying anything until next summer... so i will probley wash the shell and take some good photos for ebay and try it on there as job lot less hassle hopefully with a 4.5k reserve if not break it up over the winter and hope to get the same possibly more

It sounds sensible. If you are looking for a Cerbie then get in touch with Simon at Fernhurst TVR and say that Toby sent you 01428 653 924 he will keep you in mind if the right spec or priced one comes up.

I have told him that I wouldn't mind one with poor chassis and blown engine as a trade purchase as I would LS it and fix the chassis.

I think that sounds like the best plan as breaking it could become a hassle. Lots of folk seam to be looking for cossies and it you clean it up a bit and pop it on eBay I'm sure someone will take it and fix it up.

My mate has a cerbra and it is bonkers in every way...
