Quickest road legal rwd Cosworth quarter mile?
Probably been mentioned before at some point but who and what time was the quickest rwd Cossie on the quarter mile?
Rwd only, on road tyres, with no nos...
Anyone??

That is quite a specific set of requirements, I would expect that people looking to set "quickest" to a point where it is almost advertised is going to start putting sticky rubber or nos on there.
I don't have a clue but would be interested to know how quick and how they compare to other cars.
I wonder if Rod has that time as he had road legal tyres, only thing is that he had Nos so would need to know his without that.

I'm more impressed by what speed it's doing at the end of the quarter mile. Shows more realistically how quick the thing will be on the road on the move

Mine has never actually done a quarter but have taken a time during 0-200mph run on datron. With 640bhp off gas as that is only switched on at higher speeds would have been road tyres & pump. 11.5 @ 138mph. Geared for 217mph & on a runway its a shit time & others will have gone quicker this was back in 2004.
At totb1 in 2002 with about 480bhp we ran 13.2 @ 129mph over 500metres. Im told by the drag boys to achieved that must have hit the quarter in 11.8 secs or quicker that's fast for the Power im told. Sorry im not a drag boy my car would need drastic changes to be that.
Hers a vid of that run in 2002. Mark is driving im the Owner & the commentator has his knickers in a twist but watch the end for a very young Mark Shead looking like a young Cherub .

Cool, thanks for the info Rod. Mark must have turned up on his skateboard as he was too young to have a licence!
So it is likely that a car geared for the quarter on a sticky surface like pod and set up for a launch would greatly improve on that plus we now have more modern road tyres, much better ecus and the twin scroll turbos.
Plus the car can now run much better compression ratios. Back then did you have an intercooler of any decent quality as I bet there would have been heat soak on an RS 500 style.

Lee cattermell ( spelling). He was cracking up the 1/4 mile, if he had all your requirements I don't know but he put in very good times, Rod may know more on this but he was always there or there abouts.

Lee did have Nitrous but this was a fast car his 0-60 remains unbeaten for a RWD. The 0-100 in 7.3 compares well with mine at 6.9 but from then on its simply no contest. Lee could get them off the line better than anyone else. He was called 'twinkle toes' back in the day.

He's on one of the Fast Ford or Performance Ford DVD's. The one with Euan begbie (spelling) saph and the clunky box but fast RS200.

Lee was very quick, maybe the quickest, but he had nos....
Is nos cheating??
A lot of people seem to take the approach that if you have nos it's just bolt on easy power and cheating

My opinion is use anything you can to get the job done, bolting on a bigger turbo is bolt on power too. I appreciate that a 150 shot of nos wouldn't last long on the road but surely nos is best used to get on boost and torque fill / overcome gearing rather than the long open throttle (wot)?

I don't really have a plan as such.
Just wondered what the quickest cars were/are in that kind of spec.
I've had a few runs on the quarter but I can't get good traction off the line when launching hard.
My times are crap but it'll pull a 123 terminal.
I have around 500hp, big tooth box, supra diff at present but def need to start looking at a good suspension setup, tyres and beam combo next.
I'm not after an outright drag car/setup and I know Sierra's are def not great for drag racing too.

I would love to see it re timed with nothing other than a 6degree beam on there properly set up to see the difference and then change bit by bit to see what does what.

i would too mate! That would be interesting.
I am saving for a beam so hopefully early next year I'll have the funds for one.
For now I'm interested in just trying a few other simpler cheaper options.
The reasons for doing this are 1: to give me time to save for a beam and 2: Lee Cattermoles old sierra's were probably the quickest accelerating cosssies ever and he had a standard rear beam in both his cars.....

With enough money, a good set up and modern advancements it should be possible to better those times or at least get close with lower spec.
My 205 gti 1.9 had a reputation back in the day for lift off oversteer making them go ditch finding backwards....my old one use to love getting the back end out.....now with modern tyres you cannot unstick it on the road, even in the wet. I am sure you could on a wet track but it just goes to show rubber tech from early 90's to now has moved on so far.

That was Danny B who used to work for Adrenaline race and performance.
His car ran good times because of its drag suspension setup and that it wasn't crazy power.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
My mate got a 2wd saph just into the 11's that was a t34/greens car cost a him a diff to do it though, he also had a converted mk4 escort 4x4 on a t38 that made low 11's.
Not many cossys run the 1/4 mile was really disappointing at Forfest I only saw 2 or 3 running,

I honestly don't know, a friend of mine has a mate with a similar spec mk1 golf in the lay 10s but I really don't know. If I can get the transmission to be strong enough then 100bhp more should be simple ( if expensive) so maybe 12 to 10 sec car somewhere.

Yes it starts to get expensive after 500 bhp lol

To be fair, getting as close as I am to 500 and doing it properly hasn't been a cheap experience and my engine hasn't been apart yet!

Cost him a diff in the end and had to give it death 7k launches to do it, there's a blue mk2 escort that runs at most of the ford events at pod he just got in to the high 11's at fordfest, my Cortina ran a 12.5 on a t34 .48 but hopping to run a high 11 with a gear ratio change.

That's crazy!
Thought there would be a little more of a time difference when running the slicks?
What's the rough engine spec and power?
I've seen your vids on YouTube, good stuff!
