Default Map sensor question

A quick question for you clever folks. My standard map sensor has died on my 1990 4x4 saff cosworth. It's running a stage one tune. Can I use a 3 bar map sensor to replace it or does it have to be another 2 bar item? Cheers!

No, it must be 2, as the scales are different.

Do not use the aftermarket ones from brands hatch etc.
WHY
I had a long conversation with a chap at webcon he informed me that they tested those and would not sell them due to poor quality. And weber marrelli will not be making anymore and have scraped the tooling.😕

So unless the likes of Stu at MSD can come up with a bosch replacement and can map to suit we are all fooked and will have to go aftermarket.

The one I've bought came from an ebay seller called motorpartsworld. It says it's a direct replacement. For £25 odd it's worth a punt but I'm not totally convinced. I'll report back with a verdict as soon as it's arrived and I've fitted it.

I went to a 5 bar sensor and are relatively cheap in comparison to the 3 bar ones, but your car will need remapping

I'm hoping to avoid a remapping situation if at all possible. If this one doesn't work I'll look out for a second hand original one I reckon. Cheers, Matty.

You cannot tell, just because it runs means nothing, the only way to tell is to compare the scales.

Cheers for the info Martysmartie. Must admit though, running at all would be an improvement on my current situation 😂.

Martin is correct only way i would run a aftermarket sensor would be with a wideband afr gauge but its still a lottery.

Can u afford a 2k rebuild on your engine if it fouls up?

Unhappy

What would you folks suggest is my best option? I can't find a new genuine one, a second hand genuine one is a gamble as it may be duff and aftermarket items are a gamble too.

So, mixed reviews on the brands hatch sensors. Good to hear yours checks out Jan300. What's the best way to check the scale on the sensor? I'd like to check the one I've ordered when it arrives. Better safe than sorry. Cheers 👍
