Default Fuel gauge doesn't work

Well here goes, The fuel gauge in my cosworth just sits at half full all the time or if it's feeling adventurous it will rise to 3/4 full even if the tank its brimmed ful or nearly empty.

After googling some people found that it was the fuel gauge at fault, luckily I had a spare set of clocks and changed them last night but made little difference.

Previous owner says he fitted a 'new' sender unit but I dunno if it was just one out another car.

Anything I can test/check ect? Fuses/relays ect?

Need it sorted for driving to Germany

Cheers

Default Fuel gauge doesn't work

The gauge should go directly to the sender via a single wire. Take the wire off of the sender, the gauge shiuld go to zero. Then earth it, the gauge should read full. If it does this the I would change the sender.

I'll see if I can get a new sender from somewhere mate, I unplugged the plug in the boot and the fuel gauge instantly just went to empty so must be the sender.

Cheers

You can use senders from normal injection Sierras, you just have to crimp off the extra return on the new unit. They are a lot easier and cheaper to find!
