Fitting 18" wheels on a 3door
Just wondering how much work is required to fit 18" wheels on a 3door.
Love the look but not sure if i fancy cutting the arches to bits.
Car will have 500 splitter and is sitting on coilovers.
Be great to see more pics of anyone's 3door with 18" also

I'm having some 18" AGS CentreLocks for mine. I'm just waiting for my rear brake setup to be fitted then I'm going down to make sure they'll be ok for clearance.

I'm in the process of fitting a set for a customer just now the backs sit perfect but fronts are to far out and catch the kit but the maker of the wheels couldny be anymore helpful so there going to swap the outer rim for to allow more clearance due to that altering the offset

You'll need to make sure there the correct offset

Wouldn't go there on a road car.
Will need to be tricky with offsets, and I imagine would need coil-overs to work?
Will definitely need to run silly lo-profile tires which is where folk tend to comment on the ride quality.
Will definitely need to trim arches unless running narrow tires.
I sold my 18's but even 8x17's with 225's (et33) my arches and bodykit have taken a lot of work.
Again, depending on tire width you might find running comp struts, adj TCA's (and/or) top mounts helpful in getting clearance up front; not just for arches, but also tire clearance behind your front bumper.
Good luck with it

Your car with 17" wheels and 225 width tyres.. What profile were you running?

I've got them on now Martin, it was the 18's I had on before.
The 17's are 45 profile.
There's a massive difference in rolling diameter compared to smaller stuff on 17"s as this pic shows! I appreciate 225/45's wouldn't be the norm for most looking at a road car tire for bigger wheels on a 3dr.
Got a bit of a shock when I offered them up for sure. Go well though.
Generally I've never had good experiences going too big on wheel diameter and compensating with lower profile tires for road cars. Preferred my Integrale on 15's compared to 16's; Preferred my wife's Impreza STI on 17's compared to my Forester STI (on same suspension) on 18's, (infuriating), and prefer my Mrs' M3 on 18's compared to 19's. Perhaps it's not that I'm getting old - I must have been old all along! All were acceptable on bigger wheel, lower profile options, but not as good compared to the smaller options.
That said I prefer the characteristics of my current 17's compared to the compo splits (16's) that I started with, but I think the tires are simply a fair bit better, and it's purpose has changed considerably since then!
One word of caution if running comp struts, depending on offset you can end up touching the comp strut on full lock which is an MOT fail. Would imagine you'd clear an ARB ok, but not tried.
