Australian Saph
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. I’m a Cossie fan and very fond of Sapphires. I’ve attached a few photos of a car I owned between 1999-2007. It came to Australia in 1989 so was solid with no rust. The Aussie climate is much kinder to cars than the UK. It’s an 88’ model that was pretty standard when I got it. I added some cosmetic and performance upgrades (the first owner added the silver around the bottom which I really never liked much) but had a bit of love/hate relationship with it as it wouldn’t run just nice when I got it. I sorted it all out buy fitting an Autronic SMC ECU and enjoyed it for a few more years before deciding to move it on for another toy. The spec was;
Autronic SMC ECU
18psi boost
Ported head, GRP A gasket and O ringed block
3” custom exhaust
803 injectors
Eibach springs with Koni shocks
17”x 7” wheels
Late spec lights and vented bonnet.
I’ve been thinking of getting another Saph recently and have been thinking of this car that is nearby to me;
http://www.quicksales.com.au/ad/1988...emid-712948403
But, I’d really prefer a 4x4 but there are very few of them here in Australia – maybe 9 or 10 of them in total. I actually looked at one back in 1999 before I bought my 88’. It was a 92 facelift model, white with black leather, green top engine, A/C, Escort wheels etc… fantastic car but big $$$. Anyway oneday it may reappear forsale somewhere and I may be able to buy it. In the meantime I dream of another Cossie someday. I’m lucky enough to have another couple of toys to keep me busy in the meantime – a Mk1 Cortina GT with twincam and a 1968 Lotus Elan FHC.
I have a couple of questions;
1)Can anyone suggest the best place in the UK to buy Cossie parts, new and or secondhand? I found RS Cosworth Breakers on the web. If I buy the 2WD I’d like a vented bonnet for it. Can you still buy new bonnets and vents? You could back in 2005 when I got the last one.
2)Whats the best direct replacement turbo to fit to reduce lag and improve response?
3)Any Aussie posters on here know the whereabouts of any 4x4 Saphs I'd be keen to know. The ones I have some info on seem to have vanished.
Regards to all and keep the Saph photos and projects coming. – Matt.

I just spent 6 weeks in Melbourne over December and January. it was interesting to see so many old cars that we don't see over here anymore. and no rust on them either!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
I had a few crappy ford Falcons (amongst other things) when I lived out there and rust really isn't the issue it is over here. Even my '74 veedub camper was solid!

I am in singapore and i might be exporting my Cossie to Melbourne .
My workshop in Melbourne is Chasers Motorsports but they are more for Mitsubishi evo's.
Are you keen on buying a singapore Cosworth and you do the compliance .

Hi Matt
I was just sent a link to this page...
I currently own the Sierra
It has undergone a few mods since purchasing it, quad lights and turbo are the main items.
I get pretty much everything from Burton and from my partner's mates in Sweden.
Cheers,
Chloe

Hi Chloe. Great to see the car again. That turbo looks a lot bigger! So what's the details of the upgrades you have done?
SGP - best to bring the car into Australia as a personal import. There is no one here that has the compliance license for them, that I know of. You would need to get a VAS engineer to do all the legal stuff and any mods that may, be needed. If personal import you just need an import approval from DOTARS and once it's here a roadworthy and rego. Much more simple. I could be interested in your car once it's here. Is it a 4x4? What's the specs and can you post some photos here?

Well, I did have a few Commodores too and I loved them! To be fair, it was more because the Falcons were absolute sheds. But, if I had spent proper money (not like a thousand bucks for each) on a car while out there it would have been a HSV. I also had a skyline (4 door) that was the biggest dog for ever did see but it ran like a beauty.

hks3037 turbo with a Swedish homemade manifold and turbosmart external gate. It's currently running 340rwhp at 23psi but it will be on the dyno again soon to tidy it up a bit.
It also has 1000cc bosch injectors
Truetrac diff center with 4.27 gears
Some other mods done by the previous owner Brett include:
Airtec radiator and turbo return water cooler
4 pot bmw brembos with 324mm rotors
Thats about all I can think of at the moment apart from general maintenance parts
