Default Won't turn over

Car suddenly decided it's not going to turn over, I have changed the starter but that made no difference, is there a relay or anything for the solenoid wire?
It just clicks when you try and start it, so I split the plug behind the battery for the ignition live and used a power probe on it the cars sometimes starts but other times the starter gets stuck running but not engaged,
It does this with the old started as we'll, I'm sure it's the car at fault
Cheers

Put a jump lead from engine block to earth terminal on battery. Could be an earth issue.

I used a jump lead but it was still the same just clicked, I read the voltage at the plug by the battery when cranking that was 11.7v then I plugged it back in and read it at the started when trying to crank it only 6v down there now its pugged back together,
then after flicking the key it turned over once then the starter got stuck running not engaged just free running even with the key out, had to disconnect the battery to stop it.
but now if I connect the lead again it just starts running.
