Default 3 door body restoration costs

Hi been after a 3 door cosworth for ages, been offered one locally but it's in bit of a sorry state. Drivers inner wing is badly wrotten, passenger possible need repair or replacement, inner and outer sills need replacement and chassis rails need repair, now I know it's a lot of work but wonder of what budget I should allow for replacement panels if available, and cost in getting everything welded in nice, I have a great painter friend but he doesn't get involved in this side,
Anybody had similar 3 doors with these problems, wondered how they got on, don't really wanna resell as obviously dodgy and new shells are expensive if you can find a cheap unstamped shell. Look forward to hearing people opinions.

Sounds like a lot of work and probably more needs cutting out than you think.

Would say that's easily 1-2k of welding work plus if completely new rails will need jig setting to be in the right place.

Inner wings could be a problem sourcing but have seen pattern and genuine rails on eBay recently so should be able to get them at least!

Thanks toe knee, just feel this poor 3 door should be rescued, but obvious it needs to be priced to allow for all this? Anybody else had the issued or bit the bullet and reshelled?

Just going around this on mine now...

Panel availability isn't great for 3 doors. The only bits that seem readily available are outer wings, outer sills, rear chassis legs (beam section and boot section) and slam panels. Expressed are going to start doing floor sections soon but at about 250 a side they ain't cheap.

I've got a pair of inner wings I may not be using so PM me if your interested and Ill keep you in mind.

Cheapest option is to re-shell but then your in the age old debate of the legality of swapping VIN tags and it not being a genuine car. Personally Id prefer a to be in a solid but non-genuine car than a genuine rot box if the worse should happen - all depends how bad it is and how much you want to spend on it. tricky decision!

to give you an idea, outer sills easy, but there effectively 3 sills, an inner outer and center, I seem to have been extreamly lucky and get all 3 and genuine ones, but I can guarantee you won't find any more! I paid nearly Ł500 just for the inner sills, Ł200 for center sills, and Ł250 for outer, it's taken me about 10 days so far and I'd say I. total 14 days to strip repair paint prepare everything for mine, and mine isn't that bad. so expect it to cost a lot more than you budget for

It depends how cheap you buy the car for.
If it is really bad condition, bodywork, engine needs rebuild etc then shouldn't pay any more than 7k as you could spend that again easily.
Unfortunately there are no cheap cosworths these days
