Default DBW Throttle Installation on the 3 Door **All Fitted**

Thought I's share with you a few photo's of getting my new DBW setup fitted to the 3 Door:

Bought a brand new AS Inlet which I have to say is an exact copy of my genuine Hart one apart from the "Hart" and "Auto Specialists" marks you couldn't tell them apart. I'll do some side by side comparisons once I remove the Hart Inlet.

Firstly started off with a 15mm thick slice of 6" round alloy bar which cost me all of £6.20 from Forward Metals in Birmingham.
I originally wanted to use alloy square bar (to save cutting) but the 4 leg chuck has broken at Dyno Torque so round bar it is.

Firstly we machined a 76mm hole in the centre which is the inside diameter of the RX8 Throttle Body:

Then drilled and tapped the bolt holes for the RX8 TB, harder than you think on round bar:

Then cut down the sides to match the TB (not square I know but then neither is the rear of the TB) as the rear of the steeper motor over hangs the flange.

Then welded the new TB flange to the AS Inlet:

As you can see there is some over lap from the old flange as the inlet is only 66mm:

So then about an hour with the Die Grinder and hey presto all ported and smoothed out:

And now with the RX8 Throttle body bolted up:

I've got to make a custom gasket for the TB yet as on the RX8 the inlet has funny shaped O-Ring.

I'll update some more next week when we fit the DBW Inlet and throttle pedal and compete the wiring then it's off for mapping on the 19th February.

I did look at the Nissan Pedal and Throttle Body, as we had a TB lying around but it ended up being fitted to a Mk2 Golf in the end.

We went with the RX8 in the end because they are a nice compact 3" TB and are so cheap you can get them for as little as £10 and the same for the Pedal too.

This one was a direct fit on a hart inlet.

I did have a look at some of the Bosch ones but they all seemed to be £150 plus for a second hand one, and I really wanted a 3" TB

I was having a good look at these a couple of weeks ago at the Autosport Show, I'd love to go down that route too but funds won't allow at the moment.

You can get to do the opposite and lift the throttle in conjunction with the traction control feature

I always lift through Craners

Got it all finally wired up today and running, it's absolutely excellent, extremely responsive you wouldn't know it was DBW it idles perfectly.
Looking forward to having it mapped on the 19th, here's a couple of photos not the best as it was well dark after we'd finished;

Great work. Is there any particular part number for the throttle body?

If you go on eBay and just search for "RX8 Throttle Body" and "RX8 Throttle Pedal" they are all the same mate, some of the throttle pedals don't have the silver heel and toe cover but otherwise they are identical.

The RX8 pedal has a really nice fell to it plus mine only cost £14 delivered with a plug.
RX8 parts are so cheap you can buy a whole car for as alittle as £200 with a blown engine.

It's all custom made by Nod @ Dyno Torque, yes the ECU controls the throttle body.
