Default lowering 3dr drivers seat?

Does anyone know if it is possible to lower the drivers seat in a 3dr.

(Yes I know there is a winder handle) thanks....

It would be very useful if I could get the seat down another 20mm or 30mm.

Would it be possible to use a passenger seat subframe with out the height adjustment mechanism?

My interior is standard so I don't want to buy race seats if possible.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Andy

Yes that was what I was thinking....

But do you think that would allow the seat to be lower without modification?

Thanks

I used a non height adjustable subframe, removed all of the sliding mechanism and bolted the seat (Cobra Monaco) to it, using the adaptor plates. Can't get much lower, but obviously no adjustment with the seat! Not a problem when I fitted it years ago, but I understand it's now an MOT failure....?

Sounds good, how much lower did that make the seat from standard?

Sorry mate, I can't remember how much it lowered it by, but it was quite a lot, I'm quite tall and like sitting low down and it turned out a bit low, could do with a spacer inbetween the seat and subframe...
I'll try and get some measurements later if it helps...

Hi

Yeah some measurements would be really useful, I am tall and my hair touches the roof lining and it is very annoying.

So I am going to do something to the seat, but need to work out the best solution without spoiling the originality of the car.

Thanks

Just got home from work, I'll have a look when I get a min... The only issue you might have is that if you go the same route as me, you won't be able to move the seat back and forward, which I'm told is an MOT fail...?
Bear with me....

I noticed that there was more head room in my B reg base model sierra (non height adjustable seat base) than in my Saff which has Recaro seats.

The saff is okay and sounds like I have more room than you do but when I first got in my base model I was amazed at how much more room there actually is.

Before you ask, I'm not selling mine, but that may be what you need.

You can still then adjust forwards and backwards without any hassle from the MOT tester.

Might be worth dredging ebay for early mk1 Sierra's that are breaking and make a few enquiries.

In fact there's a bloke selling the base model spoiler on ebay at the moment (you know, the one that you cut the whaletail pillar shape out to create an RS500 lower spoiler) I'm not saying he will have one but might be worth asking, he's in North LIncolnshire IIRC.

Hope that helps.

Had a look at mine, can't get the door open that far in the garage, but the gap from the floor to the seat mounting plate is, at most, about 2" at the rear of the drivers seat...
Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info guys.

I think I will try and find a none adjustable sub frame. That would be simple way to solve the problem.

I will contact some of the breakers on Ebay first.

Otherwise I may have to install sports seats, but that does not seem to be a very popular thing to do. I would like to keep it as original as possible.

Cheers

Andy

ps. If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

ps. If anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

I spoke to my local car body shop today, they are doing some work on the car next month.

They suggested I get a used subframe and they can modify the rear mounting points so they are about 40mm shorter, so giving 40mm extra head room, the front mounts will remain the same.

Will be interesting to see if this works.

The car is having 2 brand new doors, new sunroof and seat changes. Cool thing is all this work is being pre done, so the car will only in the body shop for a day!!

Cheers

Hi

Yes, getting it up together for the summer.

My local body shop have a new machine that measures the colour of the paint, then they are going to do a test sample made to get the match right.

Then they will paint up the new doors and we can see how close they are before they go on the car.

So I guess we will see what happens!!

Cheers

Maybe go 60mm shorter and make up some spacers, so you have some adjustment...? Could probably slightly elongate the holes on the (already oversized) front mounts holes, so you can fine tune the position, about as close to the adjustment of a side mount race seat you'll get.
