so whos using the oppiler in there 4x4 cosworth ?
hi , i am thinking about an oppiler kit (or however you spell it lol)
I talked to Bara today , nice guy very helpful
so I want it to handle upto 500bhp , only running around 400 now but want the room for more power in future
will be for road use so standard ratios
is anyone using this kit ? if so how is it doing ? problems?
I am thinking if this cant handle it I may go 2wd
any info on this is much appreciated
thanks all

Jay has the oppliger (that is the correct spelling) and he rates it. Mine is a road car with near 500 bhp and Mark Shead recommends the close ratio to make the most of the car as the cossie is very long geared and has quite large gaps in the ratios which makes them feel more leggy than they need. I discussed the close vs normal ratios with Jay and he felt that close made for busy gear changes.
The close ratio is over 1000 more. There is also a quick shift cradle to consider and an updated viscous coupling.
I am building up the bits and the funds at the moment and I am 99% convinced to buy the close ratio from Bara. I have swapped to hydraulic clutch as you prob need that with a clutch to suit 500bhp and a flywheel makes sense if you are doing the clutch.
I believe the oppliger is fine at 500 ft lb and 500 bhp. They are not too noisy.
I am told I need 3.9 drop gears to go with my supra diff.
I know it is tempting to go 2wd as it is cheap and easy but I would be annoyed with all the power spinning away

What is a Bara box? He has not even mentions these to me? I know he sells fixit kits or maybe it is a big tooth box?
I understand that the opplliger is semi syncro or semi straight which means it is less noisy which is nice on a road car. Bara said they are noisier than standard boxes though.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I have used a few with no problems. Buy from bara. I prefer the ratio set up of what's called the long box but this does cost more.
Not that there's anything wrong with his stock ratio box strength wise other than its stock ratio which I feel is over geared.

With the close ratio (long box) I can see it has a 10mm spacer in there, it must be easy to add a spacer to the front prop but surely the rear is then 10mm too long or is there enough play or adjustment to lose that?

thanks for the replys guys much appreciated
so think I will be going for the opplinger kit , as 2wd its hard to get the gearboxes and more work involved in changing back .
yea Bara said about the fixit kit as it comes with a warrantee on the gears , but my thinking is its around 1k more and if the opplinger is strong and not likely to break , and if it does I cant see it costing 1k to fix so I think its a better choice .
I've been looking at youtube vids of the opplinger kit and its not too bad for noise , aswell as theres no point having bigger bhp if the gearbox will die every time its used , well that's how im looking at it lol
im just going to stick with the standard ratios as it will be fast enough and I do a fair bit of motorway driving too , going for the uprated VC too may aswel as its everything else will be done

The Oppliger long box is HIGH on my priority list but a little low on my BANK account list. I still have loads to do on the car so even if I drop £5k or more on it there is still a lot of money to spend before I can properly drive it. it is a 2015 job though.

Yep fit and forget I have hammered the fuck out of mine and its great ! When speaking to Romain about the strength he replied they use the same material in all the sequential and h box and the sequential they have run 800bhp and full ball launches on a drag car
Edited to add the gear change is so much faster to great bit of kit

Based on what Jay has told me, the recommendation from Mark shead, Bara rates them and then what the posters above have said about their own boxes I am more than happy to fix my mind on the Oppliger...just need to put up the cash, agree the close ratios and fit the flippin thing. (and finish my big brake upgrade)

I would be concerned about that if I had some decent diffs in the car to handle the torque split and if I was using the car as a competition car but Im not and after owning skylines apart from handling the power they are a horrible box bloody heavy so I am happy with my choice

Old thread but after fitting the skyline box I have to say that it wants to kill you half the time, what I mean is that it is soooo heavy it seems to be off balance and wants to fall off the Jack and kill you, I have two different transmission jacks and proper ramps and it has still come off. The adjustable torque split is the sexy bit and the ets controller makes it fun to use, you can spin 2 and 4 wheels and adjust to the road conditions.
