Default Removal 5th gear

Made a little tool to remove 5th gear.
With a little heat and some oil to aid , worked like a charm.
Gear in perfect condition after removal.
Made the tool a bit to heavy.

Looks rather nice, have you got a video of it in use?

Cheers Rich

You start with clamping the gear tight in the 2 half moon's.
Then put the 2 rods and bracket in place.
Use grease as the forces are high.
Apply some heat to the gear and lubricate the shaft.
And then turn one side and then the other side to stay square.

I will look for the drawing of the tool.
For those who are interested.

I have made and broken many such pulleys. They are just too weak for some 5ths. I've even hardened some, still they shear.

Glad you got your gear off in one piece though

As you can see i bild it a bit to heavy maybe.
The rods are M12 and the 2 bolts are M14.
What is very important is that the 2 half moon parts are perfectly clampng the whole outer surface of the gear . So you are not just pulling on the back side of the gear but the whole thing is 1 solid block.
This way it won't chip the teeth from the gear because of lateral force.

Applying heat is also crucial.
And don't wurry with a little DIY torch you will never ever reach the critical temperature when the structure of iron start to change. ( > 400°C )

You are on to a winner with what you have made as even gearbox specialists say you cant remove 5th gear without breaking it, well done.
